At icare, we’re committed to creating opportunities for meaningful growth, connection, and professional development. We’re proud to see participants like Tamanna Nagpal thriving and embracing the value of continuous learning. Here’s to more growth, opportunities, and success in the year ahead! 🎉 #icareNSW #MentoringMatters #ContinuousLearning
“In a world that is constantly changing, the greatest skill is to learn how to learn.” – Adaptation of Alvin Toffler 2024 was a year full of learnings for me both online and offline. I am incredibly thankful to be given an opportunity to be a part of the DT Mentoring Program at icare NSW, an initiative that provided a structured yet flexible platform to connect with experienced mentors, gain new perspectives, and develop both personally and professionally. A special thank you to my mentor, Nicole Storer (Embery) for her invaluable guidance, patience, and encouragement throughout this journey. The program offered resources, and opportunities for collaboration which made it an enriching experience that I’ll carry with me for years to come. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking for meaningful growth and connections at icare. Looking forward to another incredible year ahead full of learnings in my professional journey 😊

Congratulations, Rhys and Caroline! 👏 #Leadership #CommunityImpact #EmployeeOfTheYear #LeaderOfTheYear
While I generally prefer to shy away from any attention, it’s not every day you have the honour of receiving the award for Employee of the Year. As such, I saw this as an opportunity to acknowledge the team and the underlying culture that supported this to occur. Being neurodivergent has been a major advantage in my career, however it comes with some challenges. For me, the proposition of taking over from an excellent manager, for 10 months, to lead a large team of my peers, was something that kicked the brain into overdrive. There are a lot of intricacies to navigate in a temporary manager role for someone whom social interactions aren’t always the easiest. It took a couple of team members to reach out and push me to put an application in for the secondment. Ultimately, it was the culture within our team, and the wider service development team, that acted as an enabler to apply and then move into the role. Our General Manager, Suzanne, crafted a culture where success is celebrated, difference in opinion is accepted, taking a risk is possible, and failure is a learning opportunity. Something that the respective managers all contribute to and take forward. The team itself unknowingly provided immense support, spending time talking through a subject to help me shift my thinking, not taking offense when my communication may have been unintentionally blunt, and entertaining my ongoing desire to find more efficient ways of working. Even if they didn’t always work... So for me, the award is a reflection of the Service Innovation and Excellence team and the power of it’s enabling culture. I was lucky to be able to walk alongside them while they produced amazing work and outcomes. It was also great to have Newcastle people receive the two big awards, Congrats to Caroline for Leader of the Year.

In celebration of International Day of People with a Disability we are proud to announce our membership with Hidden Disabilities Sunflower 💜 Program. icare is committed to building awareness, accessibility and inclusion for all. 1 in 6 Australians (or 4.4 million Australians) have a disability*, and many of these are not visible. By wearing a Hidden Sunflower lanyard or badge, people can indicate they may need extra support or understanding for a non-visible disability. We have had an enthusiastic response from our people, who are keen to become Sunflower supporters for colleagues and those in the community.
