Our Chief Commissioner, Tim Reardon, sat down with UDIA NSW CEO Stuart Ayres for an engaging conversation about Infrastructure Australia’s role in driving economic growth and addressing housing supply challenges. Tim discussed Infrastructure Australia’s significantly expanded remit, with the agency now playing a role advising the Australian Government right across the project lifecycle – from feeding directly into the Australian Government’s budget process providing advice on proposals, right through to Post-Completion Reviews. IA’s scope has also been widened to include major transport, energy, water, communications, and social infrastructure projects. Drawing on his previous experience as the head of Transport for NSW, Tim emphasised the importance of collaboration between governments and agencies to deliver transformative projects. He stressed that this same collaborative spirit is essential to addressing the nation’s housing supply issues, with strategic infrastructure investments unlocking opportunities for new housing and enhancing community liveability. #Infrastructure #Housing #Collaboration #Leadership

At Infrastructure Australia, we’re passionate about creating an environment where our team can grow and contribute to the vital work we do. Meet Jacob Young, our People, Culture and Talent Advisor, who plays a key role in enhancing employee engagement and fostering a positive, collaborative culture at IA. “Joining IA was an exciting opportunity to be part of an organisation that has a nationwide impact in the infrastructure space—something I’ve always been deeply interested in. My role is focused on driving employee engagement and ensuring that we create an environment where everyone can thrive and feel valued. I'm incredibly proud of the work I've done to help build on the groundwork for our Family Friendly Workplaces certification. I led an internal benchmarking exercise on IA's flexible working arrangements and parental leave, which led to us successfully passing the Parents At Work certification—an achievement that only a few organisations can claim. I’m also proud to have played a key role in implementing IA’s new company values, which have truly resonated with the team and reflect what we all value about working here. There’s a real sense of camaraderie here, and the support from everyone has been invaluable. I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to develop within IA, and I’m excited about the future, knowing that each day brings new and exciting opportunities.” #MeetTheTeam #CareerDevelopment #FamilyFriendlyCertification #Infrastructure

Our Chief of Policy & Research, Steve Brogan, took the stage at the 2024 CCF Australian Infrastructure Summit to share insights on the future of Australia's infrastructure landscape. During his session, Steve highlighted the evolving role of Infrastructure Australia, including our requirement to produce Annual Budget and Performance Statements, to inform the Australian Government’s budget process on infrastructure investment and report on the outcomes being achieved by infrastructure initiatives funded by the Commonwealth. Our first Performance Statement tabled in Parliament this year uncovered several important trends in project planning, such as the growing scope and complexity of infrastructure projects, alongside an increasing number of megaprojects valued over $1 billion that are becoming more prominent in state and territory infrastructure pipelines. You can read more about these insights in our Annual Budget and Performance Statements, available online here: https://lnkd.in/g3zjHyU5 #Infrastructure #Collaboration #Policy #Sustainability #Innovation

At Infrastructure Australia, we are committed to fostering a culture that promotes personal and professional growth while making a meaningful impact on the future of Australia's infrastructure. Meet Justine Ferraro, our Executive Support Officer, who has been a key driver of culture within IA since joining. "I've always been fascinated by how government functions, particularly in the infrastructure space, and how policies and investments are decided. This role has given me the perfect opportunity to deepen my understanding while growing my skills in administration and team support. One of my proudest achievements is contributing to the positive culture at IA. Through initiatives like the social club, mental health awareness initiatives, and the Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group, I’ve had the chance to make a real impact. I’ve never been happier in a role. The support from my team and leadership is fantastic, and I feel truly comfortable being myself, which shines through in my work. The flexibility to work from home has been invaluable, allowing me to balance my career and family responsibilities. "Understanding Australia’s local steel production capabilities is essential for balancing supply chains and ensuring project success," says Infrastructure Australia Chief Executive Adam Copp. In his regular column with Infrastructure Magazine, Adam explores how increasing material sourcing options—particularly from local steel industries—can support the delivery of major projects. Adam highlights that having a clear understanding of local supply chains, what they can do, and the scale at which they can operate is invaluable during the early stages of project planning and design. By integrating local businesses into project frameworks, we can help strengthen supply chains while fostering local industry growth. Our Chief Digital and Data Officer, Rai Fergusson, recently joined GHD Digital’s Transform – Tomorrow’s Thinking podcast to discuss how innovative infrastructure is shaping Australia’s future. In conversation with industry leaders, Rai explored the importance of digital transformation, sustainability, and the role of collaboration in addressing the sector’s biggest challenges. Reflecting on our embodied carbon work, Rai highlighted that “you could do a like-for-like shift for recycled or lower carbon materials and achieve a 23% emissions reduction by 2027, just by switching out your materials.” Rai also discussed key barriers to innovation, such as inconsistent standards and the need for nationally harmonised approaches, which are critical to unlocking the full potential of technology and sustainability in infrastructure.
