GPA Engineering is pleased to continue our long-standing support of the Corporate Cup. Running for 44 years, the Cup is a walking or running event that aims to incentivise Adelaide businesses to build health, wellbeing and camaraderie in their organisation. GPA has been proud to compete in the event for many years, aligning with our strong belief in encouraging exercise and friendly competition amongst our workforce. In this time, we have won the outright Corporate Cup, Mixed Cup, and Mega Cup once each! This year, over 60 staff took part, with GPA teams putting in the work with almost 6000kms distance completed! Also, thanks to the new KM tracker feature, staff from around the country were able to participate, with our 2 Brisbane teams racking up over 2000km, Perth over 1000km and Melbourne over 400km! At the conclusion of this year’s Cup, we gathered at Adelaide Oval to celebrate another successful year, where we also celebrated a milestone award, with Lead Process Engineer Jonathon Ross being recognised for an impressive 10 years of participation! Bring on 2025!

It was great to once again be part of Future Energy Week! With attendees from industry, local, state, and federal government, and not-for-profits, the MAB at Tonsley Innovation District was teeming with the finest of SA’s future energy expertise. The event included a number of industry leading speakers, including our very own Director Rob L., who explored the future trends of Microgrid systems in Australia’s energy mix. Meanwhile, earlier in the week, in a collaboration between Future Energy Week and the FACCI - French-Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the SA Hydrogen Summit saw an engaging panel discussion between GPA’s Hydrogen and Future Fuels Manager, Briony O'Shea, The Hon Mike Rann AC CNZM, and Gunther Andersson of Flinders University. The panel explored Hydrogen’s place in the energy mix, investment strategies for hydrogen adoption, collaboration between industry, governments and academia to achieve hydrogen adoption, and Australia’s place as a leader in the innovation and technology that will drive efficiency in the global hydrogen sector. Thanks to all who engaged with GPA during Future Energy Week, we look forward to an even greater event in 2025 – and an exciting collaboration with the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge!

Our new Darwin office fit out is complete and last Friday we welcomed our MD Sean Flaherty and State Managers Markus Kern and Nigel Hough, as they joined Territory Manager NT Brian Bennett in officially inaugurating our new office with a smoking ceremony and an official naming of the office meeting space. The new space is named Yilli Riyung, a Gulumoerrgin (Larrakia) word meaning gathering place, representing a part of our commitment to reconciliation and recognition of Australia’s indigenous culture. The Larrakia people are the traditional owners of the Darwin region in which our NT office operates. It was a pleasure to welcome Cyan and Trent of the Gulumoerrgin (Larrakia) nation to perform this ceremony and we thank them for their assistance in naming Yilli Riyung. We look forward to welcoming clients in the Territory to our new space!

🪔🪔 Diwali at GPA 🪔🪔 Yesterday, GPA continued its annual tradition of bringing our offices together to celebrate Diwali! Diwali, or Deepavali – “Festival of Lights”, is a festival that can be recognised by all faiths. While this time has different meanings to different faiths it is generally recognised as symbolic of the spiritual victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and light over darkness. As such it is tradition to light lanterns or diyas as an observance. GPA is proud to celebrate the many significant festive days that are celebrated amongst our diverse team! GPA is committed to upholding and celebrating our diversity 👉 https://lnkd.in/gHrXnTXu

Ingenuity is the University of Adelaide Faculty of Sciences, Engineering, and Technology’s flagship event, where students get the opportunity to present their final-year projects. As an event partner, GPA was pleased to once again present the award for best Electrical Engineering project. We were particularly excited to see our very own undergraduate engineers presenting their projects, which they have been completing alongside their part-time work at GPA. ⚡⚡ Undergrad Electrical Engineers Euan Fetherstonhaugh and Lucas Billich presented their group project: “Future-proofing the SA power grid” “We have worked alongside SA Power Networks to investigate the impacts of household electrification; this is the conversion of non-electric appliances to their electric counterparts. We identified three main appliance types that would significantly impact energy consumption, those being cooking, hot water systems and space heating and cooling. The current software monitors the performance of transformers which are key in the operation of the distribution network. The aim of our project was to expand upon this software to account for the change in demand due to the electrification process from 2025 to 2050 at an appliance level, this will ensure electricity can be reliably and affordably supplied to homes.” 🏏🏏Elsewhere, Undergrad Mechanical Engineers Jordyn Fleetwood and Sophie McGrath’s study into the safety performance of different cricket batting glove types hopes to improve injury prevention! “Our project was to assess the safety performance of professional cricket batting gloves to offer insights on injury prevention for batter's fingers. Batting gloves come in various materials and styles, the main difference being between gloves with jointed and non-jointed knuckle sections. We completed testing by applying the equivalent energy of a cricket ball travelling at 80 km/h to the glove’s knuckle using a piston with a cricket ball attachment head. Underneath the glove's index finger, sensors were arranged on a metal collar to detect the force that would be experienced by a player's finger on impact. Our results showed that the two split style gloves (v-split and straight split) performed the best, detecting a consistently lower force compared to the non-jointed gloves (commonly called sausage finger gloves).” Congratulations to all students who presented their projects. We look forward to attending again next year! #ingenuity
