While we try to stay as apolitical as possible here, we do all we can to support emergency responders. So, with that in mind, we wanted to share news of the $150 Million (aud) announced by Chris Bowen MP & the Anthony Albanese government... The Albanese Government is helping more Australians buy cleaner and cheaper-to-run cars with discounted loans for electric vehicles (EVs). “Backed by $150 million from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), the Commonwealth Bank is now offering low-interest EV loans for workers earning less than $100,000 a year, as well as essential workers like *police officers, teachers, fire fighters and nurses*.” #nocoalthisxmas #weekendsnotruined #firefighters #police #paramedics #firstresponders https://lnkd.in/gpxvynNf

Here in Australia, we've had at least 2 electric vehicle #batteryfires from improper storage and extended exposure to weather. Both incidents caused extended delays to business as usual for the sites, and in one case, almost shut down a major airport. Similarly, ebike and escooter batteries being improperly stored at commercial properties have led to at least 6 fires and, sadly, 4 Aussies have been killed in house fires started by ebikes or scooters. Our team have long understood these risks, so we were delighted to be asked to support a very important iMOVE Australia research project, led by Shawn Ticehurst at IAG, and supported by Joshua Watts, PhD at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) and Standards Australia. Read IAGs project announcement here: https://shorturl.at/EJ7Gi A lucky researcher (or two!) will be visiting a global network of experts to gather best practice methods to establish clear, practical safety guidelines for lithium-ion battery use, storage and charging. It's a vitally important project to support all the safety of all Australians as we continue to decarbonise our transport, and we look forward to sharing the successes! #electricvehicle #batteryfire #thermalrunaway #safestorage #ebikefire #escooterfire #evfireresearchproject Image: Fire Rescue NSW (ebike shop on fire in Sydney, NSW, January 2024)

Can a battery-electric truck be used to haul dangerous goods? An excellent deep dive into a tricky question by Adam Ritzinger from Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia on regulation in Australia for #lithiumion powered trucks carrying DG in Australia. https://lnkd.in/gX4HZEXU

We’ve had a massive day as guests of Queensland Fire Department to participate in a multi-agency road rescue demo with not one, but two #electricvehicles! A huge shout out to Allianz Australia who secured a wrecked BYD Australia & New Zealand Dolphin for the crews to cut up, which we believe is a world first. Thanks to all attending agencies and especially the hard work of the QFD team for having us along! #ev #electricvehicles #evemergencyresponse #thermalrunaway #batteryfire

If you are in #Sydney and considering buying an #EV, check out the event below Nice work Steven Du, Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) & Transurban and everyone else involved to make events like this happen 👏👏👏 While EV’s are inherently safe, for any #firstresponders (#police, #paramedics, #firefighters, #rescue #crews) or #secondresponder (#towing #vehiclerecovery #salvage), events like this are an amazing opportunity to check out what vehicles are in the market in #Australia and go through the ANCAP SAFETY #Rescueapp side by side. NSW State Emergency Service, NSW Police Force, NSW Ambulance, VRA Rescue NSW, Transport for NSW, Fire and Rescue NSW, #westernsydney,
Join me this Sunday, 17 November 2024, at Sydney Motorsport Park (The Australian Racing Drivers Club, powering Sydney Motorsport Park), Eastern Creek—Australia’s premier driving circuit—for Transurban’s #EVDriveDay! Transurban's "EVs for Everyone" show is helping motorists make the switch to a cleaner, greener, and quieter future with electric vehicles. This #FreeCommunityEvent offers attendees the chance to test-drive an EV, explore the benefits of vehicle electrification, and discover affordable options for EV ownership. Members from the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) will be there with tips on how to get into an EV sooner and more affordably, while members from Climate Action Burwood-Canada Bay and Solar Citizens will showcase how their EV can cook sausages or dumplings, and serve as a power source when you're off the grid—ideal for camping trips or power outages. If you’re lucky, you might even meet famous actress and voice artist, Sarah Aubrey from "Electrify This"! Check out her channel for more EV insights: https://lnkd.in/eUYc7Ei6 Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the future of driving firsthand! Between conferences, car shows & EV fleet safety and awareness consulting, Emma Sutcliffe had a chat with Stephen Fenech and Trevor Long of Two Blokes Talking Electric Cars EFTM about the local & global numbers of #EV #battery #fires, how it all started, and maybe a bit about why some myths get spread. Thanks for your time guys! Its been a pretty busy few months, but lots of stuff we’re able to discuss and share this week! Check it out! https://lnkd.in/gtQQyRDV The whole program is great, but if you want to listen to Emma’s conversation tune in from about 7.35 👍 If you want to know more about #electriccars #fires, #safer #charging, or what does a #burnt #lithium-ion battery look like, hit the like follow button 👌 #twoblokestalkingaboutelectriccars #mitsubishi #outlander #nobatteryfirethattime #dontparkonthegrass

Hey Australia 🇦🇺 how many EV battery fires have we found? We've listed the causes of 8 plug-in electric vehicle battery fires we've studied, which occurred while they've been in normal operation. These include: 🔥 Arson 🔥 High speed collision 🔥 Exposure to another fire 🔥 Unknown Only one was connected to charging at the time, and while the cause of that fire is under investigation, we believe charging was coincidental, not causal. The leading causes of battery fire are high speed collision (3 EVs) and exposure to another fire in 3 cases, all of which were garage fires in private homes spreading to the vehicles. The first incident of these eight occurred on 28th February 2021 and we've listed everything to 1st November 2024. There are another 3 EV battery fires we're looking into, 2 in EV conversion workshops and one where a pack was left on the ground for several months (ie. NOT in normal operation). We haven't included them here, but that's for another day. Important: We only track EV fires where the high voltage lithium-ion battery was involved, a process called thermal runaway. These incidents are those we've been able to find and verify, but we may not have captured them all, so if you know of any others, we're keen to hear about them! This is WHY we always say ‘assume you’re dealing with an EV until proven otherwise’ when we train emergency responders! We’re at Future Drive AutoShows in Sydney and there’s a heap of EVs coming to market, including one or two brands we’d never even heard of. (Yes, we’re checking them all out for emergency response cut loops, pull plugs and fuses!) #ev #evemergency #evemergencyresponse

So whats up for day 2 at the Future Drive AutoShows #EV #autoshow in #Sydney…? Well, following the official opening of the event by the #Minister for #Climate #change & #Environment, Chris Bowen MP, EV FireSafe is proud to have Emma Sutcliffe present on the #actual #data related to #electric #vehicles and #thermalrunaway

🔥 Looking for information on a fire in a truck carrying EVs🔥 This incident is reported to have occurred in France very recently, but we can't find any information to verify whether EVs were involved or the incident itself. Any help from our LinkedIn brains trust is appreciated! #evfire? #batteryfire #truckfire #lithiumionbatteries #thermalrunaway
