  • Millennium Kids is a Perth-based not-for-profit that empowers young people to take on environmental problems. Millennium Kids has partnered with WeSAVE, an Indonesian non-profit to help build a vocational training high school, SMK Kreatif Dompu, in Indonesia. Enitiate partnered with Millenium Kids on a rainwater capture system in Semester 1 and are partnering again this semester to tackle another challenge with the school. Located within a rice field 500m from the nearest village, the school currently has 66 students and 13 teachers. Currently, the school has a pre-existing fish farm that mainly supports the school's dietary needs. WeSAVE hopes to expand the fish farm into an aquaponics farm that will be self-sufficient, keeping in line with the school’s sustainability goals. Enitiate will be conducting a feasibility study to determine the most viable operating conditions and dimensions for an aquaponics system. Building a successful aquaponics farm has the benefits of water conservation as well as producing food and natural fertilisation. The successful implementation of the aquaponics farm will improve the schools self-sufficiency, provide an educational opportunity for the students and improve sustainability.

  • Good Sammy Enterprises is a Western Australian organisation that was founded in 1958 and their primary goal is to provide employment opportunities for those with disabilities. Good Sammy runs multiple op shops and containers for change warehouses which encourages recycling across our communities. Over 50% of employees identify as having a disability, demonstrating the overall success of their mission. The Good Sammy Containers for Change initiative was established in 2020 and is a program that enables the community to recycle drink containers. The employees stand beside large bins where they throw containers into the appropriate bins so the bottles can go on to further processing. Throwing glass containers into storage bins creates a loud noise, which is amplified by the sound echoing off the corrugated walls. A large proportion of Good Sammy employees have a disability and working in loud environments can inhibit their ability to work. Enitiate aims to produce a report outlining potential designs and materials for sound-barrier shrouds to be used in the container disposal process. By doing so, this will reduce the overall noise pollution in the workplace and make it a more comfortable workplace for all employees.

  • Ocean Heroes is a Western Australian not-for-profit organisation that aims to provide children with autism the opportunity to learn how to surf. By participating in this activity, these children are able to build confidence, enhance their social skills, and foster a connection with the ocean. To date, Ocean Heroes has successfully introduced over 9,000 children across WA to the joy of surfing. Ocean Heroes hosts free events in both Perth and remote areas like Broome and Albany. These rural locations pose challenges, including the lack of running water to wash off any sand and salt. Since a number of the surfers have sensory issues, it is important that they can rinse off after swimming to avoid any discomfort. Ocean Heroes currently has a plan to obtain an empty van that will be used for storage and transportation purposes. Enitiate has been tasked with proposing a water heating system arrangement that will be attached around the van, and accommodates for the weight limits of the vehicle. By doing this, Ocean Heroes will be able to transport readily available hot water to any of its locations so that the kids are able to rinse off comfortably.
