About us
The Department of Communities is Western Australia’s major human services department that brings together vital services and functions that support individual, family and community wellbeing. Working closely with our partners across government and the community services sector, our areas of responsibility include disability services, child protection and family support, housing, community services, prevention of family and domestic violence, seniors, ageing, veterans, volunteering and women’s interests. We also lead the State’s social recovery, following challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. We support many Western Australians, with a focus on some of the most vulnerable people in our state. The job we do is rewarding but can be challenging. People, place and home is at the core of everything we do and why we do it. We work for the people who make up our communities across Western Australia; we help people be the best they can be. We focus our efforts on building places that are inclusive and connected and offer everyone the opportunity to prosper. And we support children and families so that they can have a physically and emotionally secure place to call home. We promote a diverse workforce and embrace a high standard of equal opportunity, health and safety, and ethical practice. Join us and work in a role where you can make a real difference to the lives of children, families and communities throughout Western Australia. Every year, our Chief Elf Malcolm Tsang and his dedicated team of Elves and Sleigh Drivers come together to make Christmas special for children in care. With careful planning, organising, and packing, they ensure each gift is delivered with holiday magic. 🎄✨ This year, the elves prepared more than 6,000 presents for Santa and his reindeers, who delivered presents across the state, from the Kimberley to the Great Southern and everywhere in between, bringing Christmas joy to children in care. A heartfelt thank you to Malcolm, his incredible team, and everyone who contributed to making this magical tradition possible. 🧑🎄❄️🎄 📍 Want to be involved in these types of magical opportunities? A huge shoutout to Woolworths Group and their transport partner, Primary Connect, for bringing Christmas magic to children in care this year! 🎅🎄 Thanks to their incredible support, more than 80 boxes of presents reached children across Derby, Kununurra, Karratha, South Hedland, Roebourne and Newman just in time for Christmas morning. With their sleigh traveling countless miles, Woolworths and Primary Connect played a key role in spreading joy and their generosity made Christmas brighter for children in care. 🎁To find out more about our Christmas present drive, visit https://docsm.au/3DptvI4

The festive season can be a tough time for many children and young people in care. That’s why we run an annual present drive for children in care. 🎁🤶🌟💝🎄⭐ This year our Communities Christmas elves are delivering more than 6,000 presents to help bring some joy into the lives of WA’s most vulnerable this festive season. Our Christmas present drive has grown so big, our IT team had to build an app to handle the matching of children with gift donors! A heartfelt thank you to all those involved, the Christmas magic wouldn't be possible without your generosity and commitment. 📍You too can support a child in care, for more information visit https://docsm.au/3sV8Ar0
