About us
Defence Housing Australia (DHA) is one of the country’s most successful Government Business Enterprises, established in 1988 to provide housing and related services to Defence members and their families. In fulfilling our role, we contribute to Defence retention, recruitment and operational goals. We are active in Australian residential housing and investment markets, with award-winning development, construction, acquisition and leasing programs. We are one of the largest property managers in Australia, with approximately 18,500 properties under management, worth around $10 billion. Approximately 13,000 properties are managed on behalf of investors. We are a major residential land developer, with more than $1 billion committed to projects in most capital cities and many major regional centres. We also undertake a range of development projects on behalf of government organisations, including the Department of Defence. We are committed to creating vibrant, healthy and sustainable communities that bring Defence members and new homeowners together—places they are proud to call home.

📢 We are thrilled to provide 420 new Defence homes in Townsville. On Tuesday, we formally acknowledged our new housing initiative with a sod-turning ceremony led by Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans’ Affairs, the Hon Matt Keogh MP. These homes will be delivered through our New Builds Volume Leasing Program, as part of agreements with local businesses Maidment Group, Z&Me Group and Tropical Homes Townsville (Parkside Group). These suppliers will build to sell to investors, with a long-term DHA lease commitment in place to house Australian Defence members and their families. 👷📝👨👩👧👧 Through these initiatives, we are addressing the housing needs of Defence Australia and preparing to accommodate those moving to Townsville over the next five years. 🏘️ Find out more about the Townsville’s NBVLP agreements and how we are providing housing support in the region: https://bit.ly/4fYhYh4

We value opportunities to celebrate and acknowledge organisations whose efforts to support Australian Defence Force members and their families aligns with our own. It was therefore a pleasure for DHA Board Directors and staff to attend the annual Sydney Legacy Remembrance Day Lunch and Legacy Brisbane Gala Dinner earlier this month. With our affiliation to Legacy through their focus on supporting Defence families in times of need, we were proud to provide sponsorships for these events and for DHA Board Director, Ms Andrea Galloway FAICD to toast Legacy at the Sydney luncheon. In an initiative to better support our staff who accompany an Australian Defence Force (ADF) member, we have expanded our offerings to include mobility options in our Enterprise Agreement, which came into effect in June this year. Committed to remaining an inclusive workplace, providing more flexibility will provide better clarity to staff, despite the unpredictable nature defence life presents. Reaffirming our ability to support staff during times of change and provide job security in return of their ongoing commitment to our workforce. “Fostering the contribution of people in our workplace with a connection to the Defence community brings important insights to the work that we do as an organisation.” – Eline Martinsen, Chief People Officer. As an organisation we uphold our strong focus on our staff that play a pivotal role in providing housing to the ADF community and their families. We are proud to share our support in fostering upcoming #talent in the world of information communication technology (ICT), recently welcoming two high school students via the WIC Women in ICT Connection Program. The program offers valuable #ICT work experience to young women and non-binary students. We hosted the two students over five days where they immersed themselves in different projects across our Business, Solutions and Technology team. “Creating #opportunities for students to experience the diversity of roles and opportunities within IT is a fantastic way to encourage careers in the industry. When I saw the #WIC #Workexperience Connection Program in 2023, I wanted DHA to be a part of this exceptional initiative” - Katische Vinning, Chief Information Officer. #womeninICT #learning #IT
