Funding Training, Building Skills
About us
We work to create a skilled, diverse and sustainable building and construction workforce for Western Australia. We collect a training levy from jobs over $20,000 in WA, and use these funds to reduce the cost of training a diverse, job-ready workforce and educate the next generation about the exciting roles and opportunities in the construction industry. Construction employers, employees, apprentices and trainees can access funding and incentives to assist in training and upskilling. We also support the next generation of WA’s construction workforce with career pathways and industry insights. We provide scholarships for school-aged people to begin their pre-apprenticeship, and support real-world construction experience through our Try-A-Trade program. Resources are available to learn about careers in the construction industry in both in the school environment and at our fully interactive Construction Futures Centre located at our Belmont headquarters. Learn about how we can support you by heading to our website. It came into being as the Building and Construction Industry Training Fund under the Building and Construction Industry Training Fund and Levy Collection Act 1990 and changed its name to Construction Training Fund in 2019. CTF is managed by a Board of industry representatives appointed by the Minister for Education and Training, led by Board Chair, Reg Howard-Smith. The CTF team consists of experienced industry professionals, trained to assist our stakeholders in areas such as levy payments, eligibility, how to claim available grants and subsidies, available training initiatives, pre-apprenticeship options, career pathways and industry insights.

The Construction Training Fund End of Year Sundowner is a yearly highlight for the CTF team, where we get to catch up with our stakeholders and 2024 was no exception. This year's get-together was especially poignant as we also celebrated Rob Berryman's career at CTF, having retired from his role as Director of Skill Development this year. Rob was instrumental in CTF's work over the last five years, and his good humour and industry knowledge will be sorely missed at our Belmont offices. Minister for Training and Workforce Development Hon. Simone McGurk, CTF Board Chair Reg Howard-Smith and CEO Tiffany Allen all thanked Rob and spoke highly of his contributions to the WA construction industry.

2024 has been a big year for Construction Training Fund. We've launched new initiatives to support workers, employers and apprentices, disbursed more funding to the WA construction workforce than ever before, and published research that will support a more inclusive and sustainable future for the construction industry. We also launched a campaign highlighting those who are building our state today and guiding the next generation of the industry to meet the needs of tomorrow. None of this would have been possible without the help and support of our partners and stakeholders. From the team at CTF, we would like to extend a thank you to all who have assisted us in 2024 in bringing that work to life. We look forward to collaborating with you more in 2025.

It was a privilege for the CTF team to attend the launch of the MATES in Construction WA 'Constructing a Safer Industry' research report, in collaboration with The University of Western Australia. This important piece of work offers insight into the factors contributing to suicide in the construction industry and provides a benchmark that progress can be measured against for a safer and more sustainable construction industry in Western Australia. CTF's Tiffany Allen and MATES WA CEO Liam Cubbage spoke at the launch, as well as psychosocial mines Inspector Jordan Jackson, who presented findings from his master's thesis on attitudes towards suicide in the resources sector.
