How much can a city transform in just 15 years? Global urban strategy and design experts, Gehl - Making Cities for People, is pretty impressed by the changes Perth's undergone in the CBD. Since their previous visits in 1994 and 2009, Perth now has signs of vibrancy and “being lived in”, with a growing residential population and a welcome focus towards the Swan River, said Gehl Partner Henriette Vamberg. At City of Perth’s Towards 2036 breakfast event, attended by CEO Paula Rogers, Henriette shared Perth is very close to Jan Gehl’s heart. Gehl has been commissioned by Committee for Perth Silver member City of Perth to measure how the CBD is performing from a Public Space Public Life perspective and provide the City with a masterplan for future growth. The 2009 recommendations were a driving force for the city’s public realm development including Elizabeth Quay and the Perth City Link, plus the recent work on the Perth Riverfront Masterplan. As strong advocates for a plan for the Perth region, we look forward to collaborating and engaging with the masterplan, due next year, which will help guide the city’s future development towards 2036. “So many things across Perth that were once unimaginable are now a reality. We are living the change, and we all have a role in its delivery.” Hon Roger Cook MLA delivered our first annual Premier’s Address to Committee for Perth members earlier this week to a packed room, providing an exclusive briefing on the latest Diversify WA update. This is the government’s roadmap for Western Australia’s future and the Premier reported on the work and investment that has happened since it was launched in 2019. You can read the update here: https://lnkd.in/gdNJcxkb The Premier is determined that Perth and WA should develop a more diverse and stable economy, free from the boom/bust cycle, for the benefit of our future generations. He explained “Arts is crucial to mining, great social community assets are crucial to AUKUS. All these things are interconnected,” emphasising that liveability is essential to attracting and retaining a young and skilled workforce to call Perth and WA home. Attendees were given greater insights into the work already underway to diversify our economy, with a panel discussion facilitated by CEO Paula Rogers, and involving WA Defence Advocate Philip Spedding. DSC, AM, Tourism Western Australia Chair and WAAPA board member Di Bain, and Synergy (Electricity Generation and Retail Corporation) CEO David Fyfe. Thank you to Commonwealth Bank and Gary McGrath MBA, FAICD. for hosting the first edition of the Premier's Address event series. #Perth2050 #CommitteeforPerth #shareyourperth #diversifyWA #diversifyupdate

From planning and construction to design and supply, Perth's urban landscape is undergoing rapid change. It was with this focus, we welcomed Emma Williamson, Government Architect Western Australia, at the Urban Insights: Designing Perth’s Urban Evolution event. How can Perth shift from Perth 2.0 to 3.0? In Emma’s words, Perth 3.0 looks like “…a city where people have the right to a home and a city where people feel that they are valued; a city that is vibrant and connected, a city where density and rewilding are happening simultaneously.” Read more about the event in the Business News article here: https://lnkd.in/gTrt8cDB? Will Perth be ready for a population of 3.5 million people or more by 2050? Perth needs an ambitious and imaginative plan to set it up for success for future generations – and a genuine commitment to implement it. The Perth 2050 report, a research initiative led by Committee for Perth and member organisation Scitech, and authored by accredited futurist Dr Ben Hamer, aims to present a clear, evidence-based vision on how the Perth region can adapt to global trends and innovations to thrive in 2050 and beyond. The Perth 2050 report synthesises insights and voices from more than 1,400 Perth residents, including high school students and industry leaders, and paints a picture of tomorrow. In doing so it has identified ten priorities for the future of Perth: ◾ Decarbonisation and the desire for sustainability ◾ Urban sprawl and density with identity ◾ Reimagined infrastructure and transport ◾ Housing affordability and availability ◾ Adopting technology while maintaining humanity ◾ Beyond mining and toward economic diversification ◾ Transforming work for the new economy ◾ Skills and educating tomorrow’s workforce ◾ Ageing strong and living well ◾ Building vibrant and inclusive communities Read the report in full here: https://lnkd.in/gXu59MaT #committeeforperth #perth2050 #futurefocus #decarbonisation #densification #diversification Paula Rogers

Members, the latest edition of Urban Scrawl has landed in your inbox 🎉 This month's issue has been inspired by the Powering Perth: The path to global recognition report, released in collaboration with our member RSM Australia, in October. It's prompted us to ask: how can we tell Perth’s story better? International Inspiration looks at places with slogans, Benchmark Cities explores the futuristic city of Freiburg on the edge of the Black Forest in Germany, and in On The Ground Intel, Tania Hudson, CEO of Chamber of Arts and Culture WA shares lessons we can learn from the River City, Brisbane (Meanjin). On Tuesday afternoon, we embarked on a trip to the future as we launched the Perth 2050 report, in partnership with Scitech, hosted at Wesley College. Accredited futurist - and our 2050 tour guide - Dr Ben Hamer gave attendees plenty to think about as he unpacked his analysis of the Perth 2050 survey, from economic diversification and jobs that don’t even exist yet, to increased density and 3D printed construction to tackle the housing crisis. With the population of Perth set to reach 3.5 million by 2050, the challenge will be how Perth keeps its ‘secret sauce’ at the same time as our economy diversifies, adopting new technology and urban density replaces the sprawl. As a future focused organisation, we recognise the importance of hearing the voices from the leaders of tomorrow, with students from Presbyterian Ladies' College, Perth, Wesley College, Perth and All Saints' College shared their inspiring visions for the future. 🔗Read and share the report via: https://lnkd.in/gXu59MaT #committeeforperth #perth2050 #reseearchreport #advocacy Photo credit: Lewis Payton
