Today marks the final day of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, and the last day of our Expect Respect campaign. Thank you to all of the cafés who participated in our Expect Respect campaign – you have made an incredible impact by bringing this important topic up in conversations across WA. Let’s keep the conversation going by continuing to call out the justifying, minimising and excusing we hear so often when we talk about workplace sexual harassment and other forms of gender-based violence. As a community, we can all support each other to create safe and respectful workplaces. #ExpectRespect #16DaysinWA #16Days #16DaysofActivism #NoExcuse #RespectAtWork #GenderEquality #SexualHarassment #GenderedViolence #WorkplaceCulture

Today, we celebrate the 76th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the 31st Anniversary of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). 🌍✨ Since its inception, the UDHR has championed equality, freedom, and justice for everyone around the world. It calls on each of us to actively protect and uphold the rights of every person, every day. Our Humanitarian team’s vision is based on the UDHR. We believe in an inclusive community where people new to Australia from disadvantaged and diverse backgrounds, understand their rights, can access justice and are treated with equality and dignity. We continue to advocate for vulnerable groups including humanitarian visa holders, asylum seekers, refugees and people who are otherwise disadvantaged. Our efforts focus on ensuring they can access legal advice and assistance, access a fair and informed legal process, and for that legal process to remain relevant and supportive of the UDHR and its mission. Our Humanitarian team remains dedicated to upholding and advancing the UDHR’s promise of freedom, equality and justice for every client and we celebrate today’s anniversaries in this spirit. 💚 Visit the UN website for more information: https://ow.ly/UOvb50UloMV #HumanRights #HumanRightsDay #UDHR #EqualityForAll #HumanitarianSupport

Masculine behaviour that emphasises aggression, dominance and control is a driver of gender-based violence. One way that this behaviour might present in the workplace is in locker-room talk, or in unwanted touching, hugging, kissing or sexual gestures. Male allyship can address this issue. It should focus on men modelling respectful and equitable behaviours in the workplace, and should promote such behaviour. A new study by the ACOSS Australian Council of Social Service and the UNSW reveals what we’re all too aware of - a growing number of renters are struggling to meet basic needs and cannot afford inflated rental costs. With the consequences of potential homelessness, serious action is needed to address this crisis, particularly as the festive season approaches. #MakeRentingFairWA #RentersRights #AffordableHousing #TenantAdvocacy https://lnkd.in/gW2Dh3-a

In the workplace, rigid gender stereotyping might be making assumptions that certain types of work are better suited for women while others are better suited for men, or assumptions about caregiving roles which can impact access to parental leave. Promoting and supporting gender-equitable domestic and parenting practices through workplace initiatives challenges assumptions about caregiving roles.
