TOPIC: Usability PROJECT: Citrovia CASE STUDY: https://bit.ly/citrovia BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Citrovia was an outdoor immersive installation which had two main goals. The first was to beautify a public plaza while it was covered by scaffolding during the construction of 2 Manhattan West. The second goal was to increase foot traffic to the location so that businesses open during the construction could see sustained visitation and in some instances, increased visitation. This 8 figure budget was a marketing initiative. ABSTRACT: Users need tools that are familiar and comfortable for them. We often times attempt to force new interactions because it can be easy to use already built widgets or existing code to either maximize budget or take a shortcut. This doesn't always result in a user experience that clients find useful or usable. Looking at our work on Citrovia, in addition to all of the fabricated components installed at the plaza level, there were $2MM in lights throughout the experience. The lighting grid was designed and programmed by some of the top lighting people in the business however, no client would have been able to hop into the grandMA software and start to set up a lighting calendar! So we began a search for existing tools that would not only allow for the client to make realtime updates to the experience, but also easily setup an ongoing schedule. After looking at a variety of 3rd party services we had a eureka moment when we realized that the client is already using G-Suite and would easily be able to make updates to a Google Calendar. So our solution was to leverage Google Calendar API calls to make scheduling updates to the lighting system. The client could simply setup a "meeting" in the calendar and this would update the GrandMA to whatever particular lighting look was desired. With over 60+ lighting looks created for all major and secondary holidays as well as special events, it was critical that the client had this level of fideltity over lighting control. It is moments and ideas like this where taking a very complex system and creating an interface that makes things simple for the client are incredibly important to not only demistify technology but to reduce the friction required to support these sorts of projects. CollaboratorPro acquired Racoon Link Checker extension🦝 In CollaboratorPro, we are passionate about automation and optimizing workflow for our clients and publishers. We accidentally found out about an extension created by Vasyl Holiney. It was a perfect match in simplicity, usefulness and solving the bottleneck for everyone who works with PR, link building reports. We were simultaneously excited and confused because why didn't we create that ourselves? We reached out Vasyl and had a conversation. Vasyl turned out to be a wonderful product manager and a great person. So we quickly found common ground because we both were speaking the language of solving users' problems.
