GENERAL SUMMARY
Leads and /or participates in design projects resulting in FAA certification of new aircraft & aircraft systems.
Responsible for charting the future design of Eclipse aircraft avionics architecture.
Will lead the efforts to develop, procure, test, integrate, and certify future products for incorporation on Eclipse aircraft both existing and future designs.
Other duties include, but not limited to: changing existing design, creating new design in support of minor & major design improvements and providing engineering support to suppliers, manufacturing and other organizational functions.
Must be self-starting, able to understand the interactions between engineering disciplines, and able to work cooperatively in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
This position caries the responsibility to brief executive management regularly on all ongoing projects assigned to the avionics group.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Effectively manages all AEE projects assigned to the team.
Administrative duties include managing new technology roadmap, testing and integration activities, and schedules, mentoring and growing from within our design and certification capabilities.
You are the staff expert.
Act as project manager / lead for assigned design projects and departmental projects
Act as technical lead, liaison and/or support for FAA-related topics, including certification & field support
Architect aircraft avionics systems and sub systems for incorporation in the aircraft
Provide senior level leadership to department engineers fostering a collaborative work environment
Provide expert level leadership with respect to software solutions for RTOS, Embedded, Application, and Firmware, etc.
Participate in optimization initiatives, including obsolescence, reliability, affordability, and maintainability.
Ability to adjust work approach & schedule based on the project (e.
g.
proof-of-concept, flight test, production, etc.
)
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor’s degree or higher, BSEE or BSCS preferred, or equivalent aerospace or related field work experience
Minimum of 15 years’ experience developing hardware and software solutions in the aerospace environment
Minimum of 15 years aircraft avionics system design including software aspects
To be successful as a principal engineer, candidates should have various experiences in leadership roles.
A successful candidate will also demonstrate excellent motivation, team leading and the ability to achieve goals and objectives.
Leadership experience may also be in the form of leadership / management roles and promotions within past organizations.
Expert level knowledge of MS Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Pursuit of excellence to the details surrounding success of a project (i.
e.
“detail oriented”)
Demonstrated project management experience
Preferred:
Project requirements management
FAA certification experience and knowledge
Good technical writing and strong overall communication skills
Pragmatic in approach and willing to “lead by example”
Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter Product Data Management (PDM) software
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This is an individual contributor role without supervisory responsibilities
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work primarily performed in an office.
May have some exposure to noise from aircraft and machinery in a warehouse or hangar environment.
Light physical demands associated with an office work environment.
TRAVEL: Minimal travel may be required
REPORTS TO: Executive Director, Engineering
Salary Range: $120,000 - $160,000 per year
