    Competency mapping, the buzz word in any industry is not complicated as it may appear. At the heart of any successful activity lies a competence or skill. In the recent years, various thought leaders in business strategy have emphasized the need to identify what competencies a business needs, in order to compete in a specific environment. Competency mapping is a strategic HR framework for monitoring the performance and development of human resource in organizations. Regardless of whatever happens to the future of manufacturing in India, the people who are outstanding in their performance will continue to be in demand and will keep rising and for this the human resource of each organization should develop the competencies which they have in order to compete with the highly competitive market. In this paper the researcher has collected data from 195 manufacturing employees. Where in 145 employees where from Jagannath Industries (JI) who is manufacturing Centrifugal Pumps and the rest 150 respondents were form VJP Aluminum Foundry (VJPAF) manufacturing of Centrifugal Pumps and their competencies where studied in depth to bridge the gap of the lacking competency which would help the employees to outshine which would help the organization to lead its goal through its objectives.

    Facing new challenges is necessary to reevaluate what set of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that professional needs in order to succeed in the rapidly changing global economy. Increasing the competitiveness of an enterprise’s workforce represents increasing its opportunities to be successful. To better understand international trade competencies of centrifugal pump industry, this section began by defining and grouping competency, followed by introducing the competency models, then discussing competency in Coimbatore and the paradigm shift on competency. The purpose of the study is to identify the gap between the performances of the employees at various levels. Individual employees in the Centrifugal Pump Line, machine shop, Assembly, maintenance and quality control employee’s job skills and personal skills are identified. Data were collected using the structured questionnaire comprised of 85 respondents. Analysis of the data is made using descriptive statistics, Sandler’s a-test and gap analysis.
