We start with Airofi, created by Dr Sana Mohamed and submitted by Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation. 🫁 Airofi is a smart wearable device that fits over the ear and is designed to combat climate change and PM2.5 particulate matter pollution by providing real-time data and health insights. Airofi features a built-in air purifier that filters harmful airborne particles, and continuously monitors users’ vital signs. 🍃 The aim is to revolutionise health monitoring technology, empowering individuals with chronic lung disease and those seeking a healthier lifestyle to take control of their health, advocate for environmental sustainability, and contribute to global efforts against air pollution. SECOND ACT DESIGN CHALLENGE by ACTIU is reaching its final stages - but before the grand finale, let's pause and look at how far we have come... This challenge that began as a one-of-a-kind initiative to champion sustainability, has turned into a creative mine for students. Putting leftover fabric from ACTIU's upholstery production to use, while ensuring it has a unique proposition for consumers is driving them to look beyond aesthetics. At this time, the challenge has reached it's most buzziest time. Design inspirations have been locked, but the twelve students are looking for elements that will make their entry stand out. Undoubtedly, the faculty at Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation has been a tremendous support to the students through it all - but it was now time for the jury members to step in and offer different perspectives. Here's a rundown of our eminent panel - Miriam Llano – Founder & MD of AMPHORA Marketing Communication Araceli Gallego – Founder of Goshopia and @UAE Fashion Revolution Marketing Coordinator Zaid Farouki – Founder and Creative Director of ZAID FAROUKI Studio This challenge is part of ACTIU’s SECOND ACT project https://lnkd.in/d5x-sEaF, which gives new life to waste materials, supports local artisans, and donates a portion of profits to social causes. 🔜 Eager to see the final results? Stay tuned!

CDC-ME Monthly Meetup | November 27 Computational Design Talks | #6 Insightful session ! Yesterday, we had our 6th monthly meetup, and it was truly an exciting event! A huge thank you to Joanne Hayek and Dr. Ghazal Javidannia, who each presented a variety of topics to the computational design community. Joanne showcased her journey and how differently she applied her computational skills along the way in varied mediums, where as Dr. Ghazal taught us a bit about the fundamentals of AI, how it can be leveraged in design, and what the future might hold for our industry! Special thanks to the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI) for providing their lecture hall. Once again, this session highlighted the growing influence of computational methods in shaping innovative approaches and solutions across the AEC landscape. See you next time !
