Gymnastics Centre - Calgary/Main Campus

Are you an energetic, self-motivated individual seeking a fun and challenging opportunity working with children and/or adults who loves Gymnastics? If so, you may be just the person we’re looking for!

University of Calgary Gymnastics Coaches works very closely with the programmers and are responsible for ensuring the programs are taught according to the extremely high standards established by the University of Calgary. All lesson plans and set-ups will be provided to coaches. Coaches can choose to coach one or more days a week for up to a 12 week session.

The UCalgary Gymnastics Centre sets the standard for progressive motor-skill development by providing children of all abilities with a foundation of confidence through non-competitive, circuit-based gymnastics programs. These programs are revised each session (Fall, Winter, Spring) based upon coaches’ feedback. Coaches are able to be flexible within the lesson plans in order to challenge each individual participant to excel.

Dates: Sessional by season (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer Camps)
Rate of Pay: $15 - $27/hr based on qualifications & experience
Location: University of Calgary - Main Campus

Gymnastics Centre - Cochrane

Each session (fall, winter, spring, & summer) Cochrane Gymnastics hires qualified coaches to coach a variety of ages and levels based on qualifications. Programs range from Pre-school aged children, beginner, intermediate, and advanced recreation for both women artistic and trampoline and tumbling. We also have a variety of performance & interclub teams as well as developmental competitive programs. Coaches can choose to coach one day a week for a 10-13 week session, or become a more continuous coach from session to session. We pride ourselves on teaching proper techniques safely, while having fun on all of our fantastic equipment! As a gymnastics coach, you have the opportunity to provide not only technical gymnastics skills, but “life” skills that will help mold a child into a confident, well-rounded individual.

Dates: Sessional by season (Fall, Winter, Spring &/or Summer)
Rate of Pay: $15 - $25/hr based on qualifications & experience
Location: Cochrane Gymnastics, Spray Lake Family Sports Centre - Cochrane AB

Intramural and Recreational Sports

Each term the IMS program employs referees for all our competitive sports. Referee responsibilities are to ensure safety of participants through direct supervision and rule enforcement. An official may use a number of intramural resources including rules, and policies to help maintain a fun, friendly, yet a competitive game that helps make our program so successful. Officials must be able to handle conflicts and resolve them rationally, and consistent. They must be able to manage the flow of a game from keeping track of time, to assessing and distributing penalties to run games as smoothly as possible. We offer training, however, having experience in the field is an asset, current certification is preferred although not mandatory.

Shifts: Mon-Thru and Sat-Sun Evenings
Dates: September to December and/or January - April 
Rate of Pay: Starting at $17/h
Location: Kinesiology Complex

Each term the IMS program hires students as event supervisors/first aid to maintain organization throughout an event, and to administer any emergency athletic first aid if necessary. The roles of the supervisor/first aid are important to keeping the flow of events running smoothly and without conflict. They are there to ensure the safety of individuals by addressing concerns, enforcing safe measures, defusing conflicts, and administering basic first-aid needs. As well the supervisor/first aid is responsible for all intramurals equipment—both distributing it and retrieving it at the end of the night. They function as a liaison between the league coordinator and participants; must be able to communicate well and efficiently with participants and relay all necessary information to event coordinators.

Shifts: Mon-Thru Evenings, and Sat-Sun
Dates: September to April 
Rate of Pay: $16-$18 
Location: Kinesiology Complex

Are you passionate about racquet sports? Do you have experience playing a racquet sport and/or teaching a sport to children between the ages of 6-17? Intramurals & Recreational Sports is currently seeking one (1) Senior Instructor with previous experience in Badminton for the upcoming winter semester youth badminton program, January - April.

Are you passionate about sports? Do you have experience playing or officiating sports? Intramurals & Recreational Sports is currently seeking multiple officials with previous experience in hockey for the upcoming fall and winter semesters Intramural program, September - December and January - March.

Do you like to canoe, kayak, or otherwise spend time on the water? Are you available weekdays in May-June and like working with kids? 
Join the Outdoor Centre Paddling team and spend your spring on the water teaching new skills to school and other youth groups. Training is available for prospective instructors with experience and enthusiasm.

Do you enjoy skiing the trails? Do you have some weekday availability and enjoy working with children? 
Join the Outdoor Centre XC team and introduce groups of students and other youth to the world of cross-country skiing. Training and mentorship available to new instructors with experience and interest.

Do you love to climb? Do you have some availability on weekday mornings and enjoy working with children?
Join the Outdoor Centre Climbing team and help grow the next generation of climbers. Certification is offered through the Outdoor Centre for experienced climbers new to teaching.

Volunteer and Practicum

The Rehabilitation and Fitness Program for Persons with Physical Disabilities is currently looking for volunteers to assist program participants with individual exercise programs. As you volunteer,  you will:

  • Assist participants with strength training and stretching techniques
  • Supervise participants during cardiovascular exercises
  • Keep participants motivated throughout sessions
