MLLI Faculty Led Study Abroad to Morocco and Spain, Summer 2024

Students had the opportunity to travel and study abroad, gaining firsthand experience in the cultural influences between Morocco and Spain. They explored intercultural communication, cuisine, architecture, music, and more. Participants witnessed the shared legacies of Moorish influence as they wandered through Fez’s ancient medina, adorned with intricate tilework and bustling markets. Additionally, they experienced the echoes of Al-Andalus in Marbella’s architecture and traditions, where the Moorish heritage intertwines harmoniously with Spanish culture. This cross-cultural program celebrated the vibrant history binding these two remarkable destinations. The program was led by the faculty of Ibn Ghazi Arabic Institute, under the guidance of Dr. Fouad Touzani and Katherine Heird from UMBC study abroad office, and Faculty Directors Dr. Elisabeth Arévelo-Guerrero and Dr. Samir El Omari.
