Educating, Empowering, and Emancipating Smallholder Tobacco Growers: The Learn As You Do Vision Smallholder tobacco growers are at the heart of Zimbabwe’s agricultural landscape, yet many face obstacles that hinder their potential. At TFT, we are driven by the belief that education, empowerment, and emancipation are the keys to unlocking this potential. These pillars form the foundation of our Learn As You Do (LAYD) program, an initiative designed to equip farmers with the practical skills and knowledge they need to thrive. On Saturday, we hosted our latest Learn As You Do event at Upton Farm in Bromley, Mashonaland East. This session focused on providing hands-on training, covering essential aspects of the tobacco production cycle, including sustainable farming practices, improving crop quality, and enhancing profitability. Farmers had the opportunity to learn directly from experts and participate in demonstrations that translated theory into actionable knowledge. The inspiration behind this LAYD session was further reinforced by insights we gained at the World Tobacco Middle East Conference in Dubai, held on 12–13 November. The global perspectives shared at the event underscored the importance of equipping smallholder farmers with cutting-edge practices to meet evolving industry demands. We are committed to bringing these insights back to our communities, ensuring our growers remain competitive on the global stage while embracing sustainability and resilience. The Learn As You Do initiative is more than just a training program; it is a transformative journey aimed at liberating farmers from challenges such as low productivity, poor quality tobacco resulting in low prices, and unsustainable practices. By empowering them with the right tools and knowledge, we are not only improving individual livelihoods but also strengthening Zimbabwe’s position in the global tobacco industry. As we reflect on the success of this event, we remain steadfast in our mission to educate, empower, and emancipate smallholder farmers. Together, we can cultivate a future where every grower has the opportunity to succeed and thrive. Sincere appreciation to our host Pastor Malvin Makawa for opening his field to us and Prof Kambare for taking time to teach us Tobacco Farmer Talk (TFT Club) Kutsaga Research Alliance One AGRA
