[Future Cities Africa Clip] Dr Thina Nzo (Ph.D) explores the governmental roles in advancing green hydrogen development in South Africa. At the national level, the president is pursuing international investments and partnerships for the country's Just Energy transition and economic growth. The Premier's office, specifically in the Northern Cape province, plays a significant role in this initiative. At the local level, district municipalities, such as Namakwa, are expected to contribute to regional planning and provide essential infrastructure and services to support the green hydrogen business. However, Namakwa District, a rural area with a small population and limited economic activities, may face challenges in generating the necessary revenue to develop the infrastructure required to accommodate the projected population growth and industrial activities by 2035. Existing infrastructure will be under strain to meet the demands of the growing population and industries, emphasising the need for substantial financing for infrastructure development. The map of The World Bank shows the potential of Botswana for Solar Power and production of Hydrogen in the world. Energy has always been the driver for industry and the old industrial regions that relied on coal and oil are now realising this.

National Treasury and the Presidency, in collaboration with SA-TIED, recently hosted a successful two-day conference on Operation Vulindlela. The event aimed to review the progress of structural reforms and outline the strategy for the next five years.
