🚨 URGENT NEWS RELEASE 🚨 South Africa Wine opposes the government's proposed 80% increase in wine excise tax, a move that threatens 270 000 jobs, R56 billion in economic contributions, and the sustainability of our wine sector. 🛑 What’s at stake? Devastation to rural communities. An increase in illicit alcohol trade (already at 22% of total market). Irreparable harm to a cultural and economic cornerstone of South Africa. We urge the government to reconsider and extend the consultation deadline for meaningful engagement. The 45th edition of South Africa’s original and still favourite wine adviser, Platter’s Guide, is here, with an elegant blue-green cover-colour that speaks of South Africa’s vineyards’ unique location between two oceans. The guide’s founders, journalists and winelovers John and Erica Platter, in the late 1970s were inspired by Hugh Johnson's pioneering Pocket Wine Book to compile a local version, with wine tasting notes, ratings, potted winery profiles and general information useful to consumers...

Paul Boutinot’s winemaking journey in South Africa began in 1994 with the False Bay label. He later found his ideal site at Waterkloof in 2003, focusing on organic farming and producing fine wines from respected soils. With half the farm covered in natural fynbos, Waterkloof earned Championship Status with the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative in 2008. Waterkloof also offers a dining experience with Chorus Restaurant, run by acclaimed chef Bertus Basson, pairing seasonal dishes with their wines.
