As retail evolves, self-service technology, particularly self-checkout stations (SSTS), is transforming the shopping experience worldwide. With digital technology at the forefront, SSTS offers enhanced convenience by automating routine tasks and reducing wait times, all while improving efficiency and lowering costs for retailers. While countries like the USA and UK have embraced these systems, the full integration of SSTS into South Africa’s retail sector still faces challenges. Infrastructure limitations, security concerns, and a lower digital culture are some barriers to widespread adoption. However, the potential benefits are undeniable, these include, streamlined operations, improved customer engagement, and optimised resource allocation are just the beginning. For retailers ready to invest in self-service solutions, it's all about balancing technology with seamless integration into existing systems, enhancing workflows, and using data insights to drive effective decision-making. As we move forward, those who embrace these innovations will shape the future of retail, offering consumers faster, safer, and more efficient shopping experiences. #CGCSA #SelfCheckout #SSTS #RetailEvolution

🌍 Understanding Barcodes: Not every product starts with '600' 🌍 Each country has its own barcode prefix, thanks to GS1 Global – the organisation that manages a worldwide identification system for trade items. GS1’s 118 national members each have their unique number range, used to create barcodes that identify authentic products from around the globe. Here in South Africa, barcodes start with 600-601 under GS1 South Africa. However, a barcode that doesn’t start with ‘600’ doesn’t mean it’s fake. For example, products from the UK have prefixes that start from 500 to 509. When shopping, remember to Checka daai ding!
