The African Storyteller is the foremost strategic communications firm for investors to position their brands in Africa.
About us
The African Storyteller is emerging as the strategic communications partner of choice for investors who want to position and grow their brands’ footprint across Africa. Founded in 2017, 100 % black woman owned, The African Storyteller has established itself as the go-to service provider for companies looking to manage their brand’s relevance and reputation in the market, build strategic stakeholder relationships, localise their business narratives and connect with investors. The company’s success is evident from the extensive work it has done in the first two years of its existence. “We have travelled across the continent with our clients and played an integral part in developing successful go-to-market strategies, investment dialogues and stakeholder relationships, which have resulted in significant investments in various countries. Our work has spanned across Lesotho, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia,” says Ms. Thuli Phiri, Founder and CEO of The African Storyteller. Phiri’s vision is to promote Africa globally using the extensive marketing and communications experience she gained at global conglomerates such as General Electric and Total. “As Africans who engage with various decision-makers, influencers and investors globally we need to own Africa’s narrative and position the continent as an investment destination of choice,” adds Phiri. “We pride ourselves on having a deep understanding of the workings of the continent, including the business, political and media landscape and civic life. Understanding the history of a society, the makeup of its social fabric and its cultural, religious and economic dynamics is key in creating presence and resonance for a brand. Phiri believes it is not enough for companies to talk about investing. The brands that will have staying power in Africa are those that succeed in quantifying the value of their investments.

G20 Presidency moves to 🇿🇦 🙌 From the 1st of December 2024 South Africa will assume the G20 Presidency. It will be the first time that Africa which is the continent with the most young people in the world will host the G20, and the youth are excited to start their work. “This is a historic moment for developing countries, for the connections of the Global South, because these countries will be able to ensure that the voices and issues concerning them are well communicated. Often, the Global South's countries do not have an adequate role on the international stage, and now they are involved in this process, creating a new voice and a new sense of development,” said Lutfiyya Dean, head of the delegation of South Africa at Youth 20. The G20 is made up of 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brasil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Russia, Türkiye, UK and USA) and two regional bodies: the African Union and the European Union. The members of the G20 represent around 85% of the world's GDP, more than 75% of world trade and around two-thirds of the world's population. The G20 Group is the main forum for international economic cooperation It plays an important role in defining and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. Congratulations 🇿🇦 . What a gigantic and defining milestone. The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa

Reflecting on the BBBEE policy 20 years since inception BBBEE Commissioner Tshediso Matona says BBBEE has had mixed outcomes over the years. To learn more on his perspectives on the past, present and future read his opinion piece below.Thuli Phiri APR Black Umbrellas Black Management Forum Kganki Matabane, MBL
A more honest assessment of B-BBEE is that it has had mixed outcomes–which is to say it is neither a total failure nor a total a success. While in the early years a few black elites were hugely enriched due to the policy, there has since been a steadily expanding class of black small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs; industrialists and suppliers; directors of boards of companies and managers; skills training for thousands of youth and women; employees who own shares in companies they work for; and community upliftment investments–all of whom are beneficiaries of BEE, and in particular the broad-based aspects of the policy...
