𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬. 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚. In the latest excerpt of The One Thing featured by News24, Stacey Brewer—co-founder of SPARK Schools—proposes a unique solution to help fix SA: mandatory community service for all school leavers. A year spent working in the community, whether in schools, clinics, or municipalities. A year to encourage empathy, build bridges, and experience the realities faced by different South Africans. It’s more than just service. It’s about building unity. It's about ubuntu—I am because we are—and creating a spirit of shared humanity we desperately need more of. Brewer argues that a year of community service could help heal socioeconomic, racial, and political divides while giving young people valuable skills and a sense of purpose. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but Stacey puts it best: "It takes a child to raise a village. The child is you, and the child is me. And the village is South Africa." The One Thing is about bold ideas like this—the ones that just might make all the difference. Want to be inspired? • 🌍 Last week, our Head of Primary Schools Nkazimulo Zitha had the privilege of attending the T4 Education World Summit held in Dubai on the 23rd-24th of November, centered around the theme of The Hidden Curriculum. The World Schools Summit brings together leaders and decision-makers from schools, academia, NGOs and the public and private sectors including tech companies to transform teaching and learning by harnessing the Hidden Curriculum. What was truly inspiring at the summit was the diversity of voices—scholars, teachers, principals, decision-makers, and thought leaders—coming together to share insights and solutions. This summit was a testament to the power of global collaboration, showcasing how practical ideas can emerge when perspectives from all corners of the world intersect. One standout moment was engaging in a debate on the provocative question: "Will taxpayers soon demand AI to replace teachers?" The discussions around the evolving role of AI in education were as challenging as they were enlightening, sparking deep reflections on what the future of teaching might look like. These conversations resonate with our vision at SPARK Schools, which is to lead global education by developing innovative ideas that empower our scholars and educators to thrive in an ever-changing world–and make a positive impact in our communities. "I'm grateful to have been part of these conversations and excited to see how these insights will shape our collective journey in education". 🌟 #T4Education #GlobalCollaboration #AIinEducation #HiddenCurriculum #EducationInnovation #SPARKSchools

  • Earlier this week, it was announced that the unemployment rate dropped to 32.1% in Q3 2024, compared to 33.5% in the previous quarter. While this is a positive sign, the unemployment rate still reflects a challenging reality for young people and underscores the ongoing need to prepare them for an ever-changing world. In a recent interview with Metro FM, Ofentse Molefe, Principal of SPARK Midrand High, shared how SPARK High Schools prepares scholars to be future-ready and become problem-solvers for global challenges. Through our project-based learning approach, our scholars develop key skills such as: ✨ Critical Thinking ✨ Adaptability ✨ Resilience ✨ Interpersonal Skills Listen to Molefe’s interview to learn more about how we nurture future-ready leaders who possess the interpersonal skills and confidence needed to make a positive impact on their communities. Stepping into a new chapter! After over a decade of creating meaningful change through education in South Africa, we are excited to reveal our refreshed brand and Corporate Identity. Over the past two weeks, we gathered our teams across all 26 schools in our network to introduce this newly reimagined brand identity and positioning. This fresh look and feel capture the essence of who we are, representing our vision to drive positive change in our communities, inspire and spark greatness in our scholars, and be a driving force in the education space. Of course, this would not be possible without our SPARK Team. A huge thank you to all SPARK Schools staff for joining us at these events in Gauteng and the Western Cape. We would also like to thank Stacey Brewer, our CEO; Earl Sampson, our Managing Director; Nkazimulo Zitha, Head of Primary Schools; and Khomotjo Mashele, Head of Product: High Schools, for sparking new possibilities and inspiring change across our communities. Together, we’re igniting possibilities. With our refreshed brand, we are ready to move Africa—and the world—forward. Join us on this journey as we continue to innovate, empower, and shape the future. #SPARKSchools #BrandRefresh #EducationInnovation #GlobalImpact #FutureReady

The SPARK Schools team has been hard at work for many months to create a new look and feel for the brand - a CI that will help us truly showcase the incredible work that we’re doing in making high quality education accessible to South African children. A few weeks ago, I was given the task of managing two events that would bring this new brand CI to life for the around 1500 passionate Sparks who work in within the SPARK network. I was a little overwhelmed, to say the least. But with an outstanding team (a special shout out to Bulelwa Dayimani and Lobisa Hlatshwayo), the unwavering support of Stacey Brewer and Earl Sampson and the rest of the Manco team, the creative brilliance of Halo Advertising, Four D Marketing Solutions, and the legendary Heidi Brauer CM(SA), we created an incredible event for our Gauteng school teams. And while we worked hard to put something special together, the real magic was made by the Sparks who gave up their Saturday to be at the event. The energy that these amazing people brought to the party was unbelievable. In the words of our talented MC Tebogo "ProVerb" Thekisho (MBA Candidate), if this was the vibe they brought to the event, imagine how incredible their classes are! My photos don’t do justice to the unity and spirit that we experienced on the day. And in the next few days, we get to do it all over again with our teams in CT. We’re truly igniting possibilities at SPARK and I cannot wait to see where we go in the next few years, with our bold new look to support us.

Yesterday matric senior certificate exams commenced across South Africa. The upcoming weeks are incredibly stressful for the scholars who are reaching the crescendo of their 12 year schooling careers. I am sure all reading this can attest to how manic these days are. I remember writing mine like it was yesterday, sitting in the school gymnasium, hoping the science paper wouldn't be easier than I expected. It wasn't. Wishing all of you Grade 12's who are writing, including our SPARK Schools Randburg Grade 12's, all the best for these next few weeks. Your #Persistence will put you in great stead for what is to come. Let's Go! #futureleaders #education #journey
