SA Harvest
Non-profit Organizations
Redistributing food waste to ensure food safety for the food vulnerable.
About us
We rescue surplus food that would otherwise have gone to landfills. SA Harvest collects quality surplus food in refrigerated vehicles from a variety of sources and delivers it, direct, without delay and free of charge, to a variety of organisations that feed food vulnerable people on a daily basis. Even though we work closely with any organisation that rescues food and fights to reduce waste, one of our most important points of difference is that, because our business model enables us to deliver PERISHABLE as well as NON-PERISHABLE food, our recipient organisations get a sufficient variety of food-types enabling them to make full and nourishing meals for their people. The work we do has a four-fold impact. 1. Quality food for organisations that feed the food-vulnerable – the food that we deliver is nutritionally diverse and enables our recipient organisations to provide wholesome and nutritious meals to the people they support. 2. Savings for charities – our food deliveries to charitable organisations enable them to redirect vital funding into education, rehabilitation and other programmes. Charities are also able to save money on the transport costs they would have incurred if they had to do their own pick-ups from food donors. 3. Helping the environment – When good food goes to waste it decays in landfills and creates harmful methane gases that damage our atmosphere. By ensuring that good food is eaten rather than going to landfill, SA HARVEST is helping protect our environment by preventing tons of greenhouse gas emissions from polluting the atmosphere. 4. Savings for food donors – our food donors benefit from reduced expenditure associated with the disposal of excess food, reduced food storage costs and the satisfaction of knowing they are making a valuable contribution to those in need in their local community.

Our partnership with CHEP has enabled us to transport and distribute vital food donations efficiently - making food rescue at a massive scale possible. Many farms have loose fruit that has nowhere to go unless it can be collected efficiently - which is where CHEP's iconic blue bins come in! Here are just a few of the many projects and donations where CHEP bins have played a key role: 🍍 Pawpaws from Neofresh 🥦 Cauliflower from Southern Block Farming 🍠 Sweet potatoes from Dutoit Group 🍈 Butternut and gem squash from Oudemeer 🍅 Tomatoes, peppers, and baby marrows from Rennie’s and Forries Farm 🥕 Carrots from Morester Landgoed 🍶 Yoghurt from FAIR CAPE DAIRIES 🍞 Bread from Amaro Foods 🍒 Blueberries from Indigo Berries 🍄 Mushrooms from Cape Mushrooms and Denny Mushrooms (Pty) Ltd 🥕 Carrots from Roselie Farms 🥬 Cabbage from Roselie Farms and Groot Eiland Each of these donations represents more than just food — it’s nourishment, hope, and dignity for the communities we serve. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to CHEP for their unwavering support and commitment to driving meaningful change. This partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in tackling hunger and food waste. By working together, we’re creating a more efficient, sustainable supply chain for surplus food, ensuring it reaches those who need it most. We’re excited for what’s to come as we continue to grow this partnership and make an even greater impact. Here's to more wins, more meals, and more hope for South Africa. #SAHarvest #CHEP #FoodSecurity #PartnershipsForChange #ZeroHunger #ImpactThroughCollaboration
