On 15 November, delegates and presenters gathered at the Dolphins Leap Conference in Gqeberha for the #SAIVEasternCapeBranchSeminar, for what would be a day filled with informative presentations and great networking opportunities. Andries Klopper, Eastern Cape Branch chairperson, set the scene by officially opening the event and welcoming all delegates. Maartje Weyers Weyer, Town and Regional Planner at EC Town Planning Strategies kicked off with her presentation on ‘Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (SPLUMA)’. She shared pertinent points regarding the act as it relates to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality also noting that Business Zone 1 category has been expanded for NMBMM to include uses such as social housing, wellness centre, function venue and more. She was succeeded by Nelie Meier, Sales Broker at FNB who shared her expertise on ‘Insurance premiums and their impact on industrial properties'. Andries Klopper wore his valuer and advocate hat as the third speaker as he took the stage to address the delegates on ‘How valuations impact conveyancing’. He said that beyond the obvious to ensure the valuation report contents are accurate, the valuer should express any contradictions in source information and convey any other information gathered which may not appear in the source information but has bearing on such, as a potential conflict. Also, coming in from a legal perspective was ADRIAAN GROENEWALD of Groenewald Attorneys who followed with his presentation on ‘Agricultural land values and water use entitlements with a specific view to the National Water Act, 1998’. After the lunch break, Aaron Cohen Managing Member of Cohen Property Development presented on the topic ‘the property development market in the Eastern Cape region, speaking specifically about Gqeberha before handing over to the final speaker, Pine Pienaar who spoke about the ‘valuation of orchards’ and closed off the lineup of presentations We would like to thank everyone who has played a part – however big or small, in bringing the event together, especially our delegates and speakers. Till next time. #SaivSeminar
