About us
With the dawn of democracy in 1994, and the adoption of a new final constitution in1996, a provision was made for an Office of the President, which later became known as The Presidency. Under previous dispensations, the head of government in South Africa were Prime Ministers and State Presidents. As the executive manager of government The Presidency is at the apex of the system of government in the Republic of South Africa. The Presidency is situated in the Union Buildings, Pretoria, and has another subsidiary office in Tuynhuys, Cape Town. The Presidency's key role in the executive management and co-ordination of Government lies in its responsibility to organize governance. In this regard, a key aim is the facilitation of an integrated and co-ordinated approach to governance. This is being achieved through creative, cross-sectoral thinking on policy issues and the enhancement of the alignment of sectoral priorities with the national strategic policy framework and other Government priorities. The Presidency comprises of five political principals: The President, who is the Head of State and Government, The Deputy President, who is the Leader of Government Business (in Parliament), the Minister of Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation as well as Administration, the Minister of Women, and the Deputy Minister for Planning, Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation. The Presidency has structures which support governance operations directly: they are the Cabinet Office and Legal and Executive Services. The Cabinet Office provides administrative support to Cabinet. It implements administrative systems and processes to ensure the overall optimal functioning of the Cabinet and its committees. It also facilitates the management of decision-making processes of the Cabinet and its Committees.

Just over 100 days have passed since the members of the Government of National Unity were sworn into office. In that time, we have witnessed a marked increase in confidence in the direction of our country. https://shorturl.at/EDZlf

We are humbled and motivated by the global recognition given to the Social Employment Fund - a flagship of our Presidential Employment Stimulus – at the Bay Urban Visioning Awards in Bilbao, Spain. The Social Employment Fund has created public employment opportunities for more than 100 000 people in more than 6 000 sites across the country, supporting civil society organisations to create employment in communities. The Fund has been selected from more than 100 submissions from all over the world to receive the Global Prosperity Catalyst Award. We appreciate this recognition. Congratulations are due to all the partners who have made this initiative a success and we celebrate the contribution made to our society by the tens of thousands of South Africans who have benefited from this programme. Let’s keep it up.

Today marks one year since the start of an onslaught against the Palestinian people that has thus far claimed more than 43,000 lives. The violence that has been committed by Israel against Palestinians over many decades intensified after an attack on Israel by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups on 7 October last year. https://shorturl.at/mYtXM

I offer my deep condolences to the Molokoane family on the passing of our beloved gospel icon Solomon Molokoane, known to us as Solly Moholo. Solly Moholo provided the melodies, rhythms and words of inspiration and comfort, such as we need now, that were the soundtrack of faith, worship and community for millions of South Africans and neighbours in our region for decades. Our sincere sympathies once more to the Molokoanes as we reflect on Solly’s contribution to the spiritual and cultural life of our nation and as we turn up the volume on his recorded performances.
