  • New Bill Alert: What You Need to Know About the One-Stop Border Post Bill.

View profile for Tebatso Motswai, graphic

Immigration Specialist IP(SA) | Global Mobility GMS® | I help individuals and organisations successfully navigate complex immigration processes and achieve their goals.

🚨 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗢𝗻𝗲-𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 🚨 I am excited to share the implications of the 𝗢𝗻𝗲-𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹 (𝗕𝟭𝟮-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰) recently introduced in South Africa’s National Assembly by Minister of Home Affairs, Leon Schreiber. 🔑 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁? This Bill is a game-changer for cross-border trade and travel. It proposes establishing 𝗢𝗻𝗲-𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 (OSBPs) at key points of entry between South Africa and its neighbouring countries. Instead of separate exit and entry processes at each side of the border, the #OSBPs streamline these into 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. This will involve #commoncontrolzones where officials from both countries will operate side-by-side, enforcing their respective laws. 📜 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Faster clearance of goods, people, and vehicles will boost cross-border trade and 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 at major land ports of entry. This is critical for South Africa, as delays have been a significant barrier to economic growth, particularly in sectors reliant on cross-border trade. 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: With the proposed changes, we’ll see 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰-𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 upgrading infrastructure, which is set to create jobs and 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Harmonising border controls between states will strengthen border security, enhance the 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, and 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗯 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀. 🇿🇦 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮? This Bill supports 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 while building a 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲. It’s an essential step in making South Africa a more competitive and connected economy in the region. This Bill is a significant step forward for the future of South African trade and travel! Let’s stay informed and engaged as these critical developments unfold. #OneStopBorderPost #SouthAfrica #Immigration #Trade #Infrastructure #EconomicGrowth #OstabetAfrica #BorderReform #PublicPrivatePartnership
