I am excited to share that my team and I had highly constructive bilateral discussion with the Honorable Minister Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana and his team from the Rwandan Ministry of Health. Their dedication to the cervical cancer elimination agenda, specifically the ambitious 90-70-90 targets, is truly inspiring. The Minister is set to unveil a bold initiative aimed at helping Rwanda achieve these elimination goals by 2027, a full three years ahead of the World Health Organization's global timeline. Rwanda has established itself as a leader with its long-standing HPV vaccination program. To further enhance this important initiative, we are exploring the impact of expanding to gender-neutral vaccination and considering the potential impact of nano-valent vaccines and adult vaccinations on their elimination efforts. I am particularly enthusiastic about our discussions centered around expanding access to innovative immuno-oncology treatments through novel contracting approaches rooted in shared value principles. This aspect is often overlooked as African nations strive to meet their elimination objectives. What a breath of fresh air! Yesterday, we had the privilege of meeting with Kenya’s Honorable Minister of Health, Dr Deborah Barasa. Her passion for expanding access to life-saving cancer treatments is truly inspiring. She has given us clear directives to collaborate closely with the National Cancer Institute to pave the way for sustainable access to Immuno-oncology medicines in Kenya. Additionally, it is important to note that Kenya is among the first African countries to advocate for gender-neutral HPV vaccination. We eagerly anticipate the revival of this crucial initiative as we work towards the goal of cervical cancer elimination by 2030.
