We Are Meant to Save Ourselves! This morning’s coaching truth is for myself and for anyone else who needs to hear this. Too often, I meet coaching clients who carry a silent script in their minds: “Someone will save me!” Or, alternatively, “Someone must save me!” They may not say these words outright, but their stories echo the same refrain—blaming others for not stepping in or not doing enough, or not doing what we think they must be doing for us. And the reality is, whatever anyone else does, it will never be enough, because no matter what they do, you will still feel it is not enough! Here’s the hard truth: waiting for someone else to rescue you is a relic of our childlike nature. But in adulthood, the power—and the responsibility—rests squarely with you. Yes, you can seek help, get a mentor, a sponsor, a coach, supportive friends or family members, or ask for guidance and accept support. But you are not entitled to anything. Adulting means you are the captain of your lifeboat. You steer the course. You row the lifeboat. You decide where you heading to. You decide what you will do when the storm show up. And the storms and strong winds will show up. Whatever happens you have to decide how your life story unfolds—not just for you, but for anyone else who depends on your life, like your children. Pointing that index finger outward and blaming others will never rewrite the script of your life. Instead, turn that finger inward—not with criticism, but with love, compassion and courage—and ask yourself the most powerful question: “What can I do right now to take control of my life?” The first step doesn’t have to be perfect, but it has to be yours. In my coaching model, the W-O-M-A-N coaching model, the O stands for… cue a standing ovation… Ownership! I say to my clients and to myself often, “Ownership is the birthplace of transformation.” Remember, the person you’re waiting for is you! You have to save yourself. In fact, you are the only one who can save yourself. Everyone else is busy saving themselves! Fortunately for us, we were made with all the paraphernalia to save ourselves. So, let’s do it. What is the very next action that you will take to live the life you deserve? Let me know if this landed for you, or pass it on to someone who needs to hear this. • Neurodiversity is more common than we may realise, with estimates suggesting that between 15% and 20% of the global adult population is neurodivergent. This encompasses neurological variations such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Tourette syndrome, Down syndrome, and others. Unfortunately, many employers and employees lack awareness and understanding of neurological differences, leading to misunderstandings about the capabilities and support needs of neurodivergent individuals. This lack of understanding often results in stigma and discrimination, fuelled by misconceptions and stereotypes. Neurodivergent individuals face hiring biases, limited career advancement opportunities, and, in some cases, social exclusion. With unemployment rates for neurodivergent adults as high as 30% to 40%, there is an urgent need to address these challenges. Neurodivergent employees bring unique strengths to the workplace, including “outside-the-box” thinking, innovative problem-solving abilities, creativity, intense focus, and attention to detail. For organisations aiming to expand their diversity and inclusion objectives, it is essential to implement equitable practices that support and welcome neurodivergent talent. Without proper adjustments—such as reducing sensory overload—stress and anxiety levels may increase, impacting performance and well-being. Traditional recruitment processes also need to be revisited, as standard assessments and interview techniques may disadvantage neurodivergent candidates, potentially overlooking their unique strengths. The Neurodiversity in the Workplace Seminar will provide valuable insights on advancing your organisation's diversity and inclusion strategy by recognising the potential contributions of neurodivergent employees. Featuring South African and international experts, the sessions will include shared experiences and case studies to illustrate practical approaches. 📅 6 February 2025 💻 Online 🔗 Click here for more info: https://lnkd.in/dQsJhpbr
