There are a lot of benefits of monitoring your SQL Server environment. Here are three. 1. Identify and resolve performance and reliability issues early. Monitoring your database environment will provide the visibility to identify performance and reliability issues early, before they cause problems for your users. 2. Prevent data loss. Proactive monitoring and alerting can help detect and prevent data loss. Alerting on errors 823, 824, and 825, can help detect potential hardware issues before they become disruptive events. Reviewing log files and running consistency checks can help reveal corruption. 3. Detect and respond to security threats. By monitoring your database environment, you can detect and respond to security threats. Reviewing failed login attempts and using SQL Audit can help protect your data from unauthorized access or modification. Do you monitor your SQL Servers? For further information, please feel free to DM or email us at [email protected].

Is your SQL Server protected from ransomware? Protecting your data, your company, and your company’s reputation from ransomware requires layers of security and protection. And protecting your SQL Server is one element of the multi-layered approach. Here are 6 things that will help: 1) Regularly update SQL Server and the Operating System 2) Implement robust authentication and access controls 3) Implement network segmentation 4) Reduce SQL Server components 5) Use a secure backup strategy 6) Educate employees on security best practices For further assistance, DM or email us at [email protected]

How often should you test SQL Server backup files? Each environment is different and has its own setup of unique requirements. So, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer here. We generally recommend the following as a good starting point and then adjusting as needed. 1) Checking your SQL backup jobs. Do this daily. Without a backup file, you cannot restore. Don’t rely exclusively on job failure notifications. Make sure the backup jobs completed successfully. 2) Verifying the backup file. Spot check a few key backup files at least monthly to ensure that the files are well-formed and complete. 3) Proving your backups with a test restore. Depending on your systems and the storage requirements, performing a test restore and running an integrity check against the restored database every three or four months is worthwhile exercise. How often do you check your backups? For assistance, DM or email us at [email protected] #SQL #Disasterrecovery #HADR #SQLServer
