Discover Africa Group reposted this
A new chapter begins, while another closes—and I’m deeply grateful for both. I’m not usually one to announce a new role or team on LinkedIn - it’s not about me, but about the collective work the team we will do. But this moment feels different. It’s a significant transition, and with it, there are people and experiences I feel compelled to acknowledge, and thank. Just over two years ago, I decided to step back from leading a business and step into the world of advisory and consulting—a move I’d always been curious about. Over these two years, I have had the humbling opportunity to work in non-permanent roles alongside some truly remarkable people, who trusted me to join their teams and contribute meaningfully to their industries and the clients they serve. These experiences expanded my skills and perspectives in ways I couldn’t have imagined, and I hope I’ve added value along the way. Thank you Valter Adão, Philip Raw, Yasin Tosin Masha, Tim Mitchell, Alexandra M., Louis Buys, Johann Lötter, Francois Laurence CA(SA). And last but not least, thank you to my wife Azelle Kay (Theron) CA (SA) for giving me the space and support over the last two years to explore and discover, sometimes not knowing at all "what comes next". Through this time, I came to realise two things: - I missed being deeply embedded within a business—working across pillars, building teams, and helping shape a good company into something great over the long term. There’s an energy and fulfilment in being “in it” that I couldn’t shake. - Perhaps more importantly, I’ve come to realise how much it matters what a business offers the world. Over these two years of exploration and reflection, I’ve been drawn to the idea of creating something more enduring. There’s a need to shift back to things that add real depth to people’s lives—those that create lasting experiences and connect us to what truly matters: nature, preservation, and a sense of discovery. Experiences we can see, feel, and breathe. And so, my new chapter begins… I’m thrilled to be joining the Discover Africa Group as their Head of Business. In this newly created role, I’ll be working with founders Andre Van Kets and Steve Conradie, and the senior management team to play my part in shaping a good business, into a great business. Together, we will be redefining what it means to offer transformative travel experiences, bringing the heart of Africa and its natural beauty to the world, and building for the future of this incredible space. I’m grateful for the trust this team has placed in me to bring an outside perspective and new energy to the table. There’s a lot ahead, and I couldn’t be more excited to get started. Watch this space—there’s more to come.

We're thrilled to announce that Elaine Olivier has officially joined the Discover Africa Group team as a permanent employee! 🎉 With over 25 years of experience in user experience design, Elaine brings a wealth of knowledge to our team. Her adventures have taken her across Africa, from Nigeria to Kenya. 🌍 "I thrive on learning new things and am always up for a challenge," Elaine says. "I'm embracing the unfamiliar territory of working in the tourism industry and in a marketing team. With the unfamiliar, I am still able to practice my craft alongside a Content Team and Developers, where I have the opportunity to learn, share and innovate." ✔️ Fun fact: During a family trip to Kruger, a locust flying into Elaine's car caused more panic than any lion sighting! The family's brief escape from the car - forgetting they were in big cat territory - caused quite a commotion! 🦁😄 #DiscoverAfrica #TeamGrowth #AfricanAdventures #AfricaSafari #Africa
