CIGRE is a global, non-governmental, non-profit organisation. It was founded in 1921 and is headquartered in Paris, France. CIGRE Southern Africa is a National Committee (NC) of CIGRE, based in Johannesburg. It was formed to provide a vehicle which experts in the region can use to participate in CIGRE international cooperative efforts.
CIGRE membership is comprised of researchers, academics, engineers, technicians, manufacturers, suppliers and other decision makers. One of its main aims is to facilitate and develop the exchange of engineering and electricity market knowledge and information on power systems.
Its purpose is to foster engagement and knowledge sharing among power system professionals globally and to enable the sustainable provision of electricity for all.
Its mission is to contribute to the betterment of power systems by enhancing the expertise of the people within it.
Its vision is to be universally recognised as the leading global organisation for all aspects of the electric power systems.
