Today, on International Migrants Day, we recognize the resilience, courage, and contributions of migrants worldwide. Migrants are often faced with countless challenges, yet they continue to enrich communities, cultures, and economies. At CSVR, we are dedicated to supporting migrants who have been affected by violence, displacement, and trauma. We believe in the importance of creating a safe, inclusive environment where migrants are not only welcomed but also empowered to rebuild their lives with dignity. Let us take this opportunity to advocate for the rights and well-being of migrants, promote inclusivity, and ensure that no one is left behind. #InternationalMigrantsDay #CSVR #InclusionAndJustice

Civic and Social Organizations
CSVR’s vision is peaceful, equal and violence-free societies.
About us
Founded in 1989 in South Africa, the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation is an independent non-profit organisation. We engage in research, community interventions, policy formation, service delivery, education and training. For three decades, CSVR has worked to understand violence, heal its effects, reconcile communities and build sustainable peace in South Africa, the African continent and elsewhere in the world. In particular, CSVR undertakes targeted research and advocacy in partnership with civil society and affected communities in order to hold state, continental and global institutions accountable. A multidisciplinary institute, CSVR's expertise and skill set offer a comprehensive and integrated service. CSVR provides technical support and works with individuals and communities to focus on the wide range and forms of violence and conflict, including collective and interpersonal, political and criminal, and state and social violence. We provide mental health and psychosocial support services (MHPSS) and other interventions to address and prevent violence and human rights violations. CSVR’s work is rooted in an analysis of the shifting forms of conflict and violence within societies enduring a transition to democracy.

From the 2nd to 5th December 2024, the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) and the African Union (AU), with support from GIZ, held a capacity-building workshop in Maseru, Lesotho. The workshop aimed to support the implementation of the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP) and strengthen the capacity of Security Agencies and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Lesotho on the AUTJP. More specifically, the critically important roles envisaged for them in the AUTJP. This initiative is part of the ongoing AU-CSVR Mission, designed to assist Lesotho in developing a responsive and holistic policy framework and implementing a comprehensive Transitional Justice process. In a recently published think piece on the work done in Lesotho on transitional justice processes, Mary Izobo, our advocacy manager discusses the importance of transitional justice for Lesotho’s future and how it can help address historical injustices and lay the foundation for sustainable peace and stability. Today, we commemorate the Day of Reconciliation, a reminder of South Africa's ongoing journey toward unity, justice, and peace. This day calls on all of us to reflect on our shared history, acknowledge past injustices, and take action to build a future rooted in mutual respect and understanding. At CSVR, reconciliation is at the heart of our work. From addressing the effects of historical violence to supporting survivors of trauma, we strive to heal wounds and foster a more inclusive society. Reconciliation is not a single act but a continuous process of restoring dignity and bridging divides. Let’s honour this day by engaging in open dialogue, promoting social justice, and taking steps toward a South Africa where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. How will you contribute to reconciliation today? #DayOfReconciliation #CSVR
