With 60% of our candidates relocating or travelling long distances to access training at our Cape Town and Johannesburg campuses, we knew something had to change. Our new Hazyview Digital Skills Hub is about democratising access—bringing skills development to the source. Fiona Tabraham, our CEO, reflected on this, saying "It’s about creating impact at the source, bringing opportunity to young people in their own communities." In partnership with the Good Work Foundation (GWF) and proudly supported by Naspers Limited Labs and the National Treasury Jobs Fund, this hub is delivering life-changing digital skills to underutilised youth in Hazyview and neighbouring rural areas like Mkhuhlu. Most of the first cohort entered the programme with no prior experience in programming or data skills. Today, they are gaining the knowledge and confidence to dream bigger, unlocking pathways to employment, and strengthening the local economy. One of the team leading this effort is Elton Dlamini, a CAPACITI alum who now serves as a Tech Champ at the Hazyview hub. Reflecting on his journey with CAPACITI, Elton shared: "My journey started with just a dream. I was someone with little knowledge of data, but when I saw the post, I applied. From day one, I felt welcomed—I joined a family of Tech Champs and mentors who believed in me and gave me the opportunity to soar." CAPACITI remains committed to nurturing young talent, ensuring they are equipped to meet the demands of the digital economy and contribute to growing the regional BPO industry. 🎥 Watch the highlights from the launch event, where stakeholders, partners, and aspiring young professionals came together to mark this milestone. #CAPACITI #DigitalInclusion #YouthEmpowerment #TechForGood #ImpactAtSource

Earlier this month, CAPACITI participated in the AWS DeepRacer event, hosted by Umdoko Internet in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Candidates delved into essential machine learning (ML) concepts, including state-space representation, reward functions, and policy optimisation. They trained and deployed their own models, bringing their learning to life as autonomous cars raced around a miniature track. The event was a highlight for our candidates, who enjoyed the practical, hands-on experience as well as chance to see their ideas in action. #CAPACITI #AWSDeepRacer #MachineLearning #TechSkills #FutureTalent #AIInnovation

Last week, CAPACITI’s Johannesburg candidates attended the World of Credit Card Technology Masterclass led by Lead Technology Partner, Johan Louw, of Absa Group. The day began with a fun surprise, as Johan made a grand entrance dressed as Bozo the Clown, while Liesle Barendse, Human Capital: Leadership and Learning Development Specialist from Absa complemented the act, reinforcing the theme: "Tech can be fun!" From the first POS machines and coding cards to floppy disks and human-implant chips, Johan used real-world props to showcase the milestones in credit card innovation since 1966. The hands-on approach made complex concepts tangible and engaging, sparking curiosity and excitement amoung candidates. A highlight during the session was witnessing the revolutionary human-implant chip and discussing the future of virtual cards, emphasising how these advancements will shape the future of finance. Johan also took participants behind the scenes of Absa’s technology landscape, diving into the intricate payment systems that power real-time transactions. This gave candidates a deeper understanding of their potential to contribute to the innovation driving modern banking. The session combined creativity and cutting-edge innovation, with a moving video from world renowned motivational speaker, Nick Vujicic, reminding everyone that "everything is possible." This Masterclass not only expanded learners’ technical knowledge but also motivated them to envision their future roles in the ever-evolving world of financial technology. The partnership between Absa and CAPACITI reflects our shared commitment to empowering South Africa’s youth and building a tech-driven future. #CAPACITI #AbsaMasterclass #TechInnovation #FinancialTech #YouthEmpowerment #FutureLeaders #LearningJourney #Innovation #TechCareers #Inspiration
