The Sociology area of emphasis is designed to provide students with a broad based study of society. Students gain knowledge that will assist them in developing critical thinking skills, and understanding how social life is interconnected with systems in society. It also helps to develop an understanding of social and organizational structures, and teaches students to communicate effectively with diverse groups and populations. Sociology students actively participate in community service projects, develop research skills and apply their knowledge for the betterment of society.
The field of sociology is exciting and competitive in the job market. Employment opportunities are available at entry level positions and may include the following: social services, community services/programs, corrections, health services, mental health developmental services, administrative office work, customer service, day care(children and adults), community recreational groups, governmental services (federal, regional, state and local), research surveyor, and retail sales.
