Vetements presented its Spring 2017 men’s and women’s collections in Paris today as a part of the city’s official couture week. And just as you’d expect, designer Demna Gvasalia and co. shook up the fashion scene with a show entirely made up of collaborations with well-known brands from Levi’s to Juicy Couture. Here, the nine talking points of the affair while you wait for Sarah Mower’s full review.
1. The show was held in the corridors of Parisian department store Galeries Lafayette, with a single row of seating winding around the store. Guests’s seating assignments were noted with the name of the brand whose section of the store their seat was in, from Acne to Apple. Vogue sat in the Cartier section.[#image: /photos/5891292e23f9887c0e0df42c]||||||
2. Among the famous faces that turned out for Gvasalia and co. was artist Maurizio Catalan, whose magazine, Toilet Paper, is hosting an event at Galleries Lafayette later this week. [#image: /photos/5891292eb482c0ea0e4d662d]||||||
3. The show opened with model Maud Escudie, a Gvasalia favorite, in a deconstructed gray suit with a long belt trailing from her right hip.[#image: /photos/5891292f8c64075803ace49e]||||||
4. Among the collaborators Gvasalia enlisted for this collection, Juicy Couture perked up plenty of ears. Instead of recreating the brand’s famous terry tracksuits, however, Gvasalia gave them a modern update as second skin tops and trousers in electric colors with “Juicy Couture” written down the arms and across the bum in crystals.[#image: /photos/5891293023f9887c0e0df431]||||||
5. The thigh-high boot has become something of a signature at Vetements. This season, the brand really outdid itself with boots that inched higher than ever before, all the way up to models’ waists.[#image: /photos/5891293023f9887c0e0df433]||||||
6. Parkas came falling off shoulders, suspended from harnesses like extra-large backpacks.[#image: /photos/5891293258aa89a00d541a8f]||||||
7. Manolo Blahnik’s collaboration with Vetements bore pumps with sharp heel tips and “unraveling” ankle straps.[#image: /photos/58912932fb0604bf1f5c1316]||||||
8. Many of the button down shirts in the show were left unbuttoned around the ribcage to create little windows to the models’s skin.[#image: /photos/5891293358aa89a00d541a91]||||||
9. Vetements's collaboration with Dr. Martens produced classic Dr. M's black boots with black topstitching and the words "Border Line" written on the back of each heel. Read into that at will.[#image: /photos/589129348c64075803ace4a3]||||||
10. Favorite Vetements models Paul Hameline, Clara Deshayes, and stylist Lotta Volkova all walked in the show.[#image: /photos/5891293569f0c3501f1dcedb]||||||
