Last night’s 2024 CFDAs red carpet was a star-studded affair, and if there was one designer outfitting most of the evening’s best dressed attendees—including Fashion Icon award recipient Erykah Badu—it was Thom Browne. In addition to creating custom looks for Addison Rae and Sebastian Stan, Brown also dressed actor Kathryn Hahn for the night. “I was able to go as a guest of Mr. Browne, with Thom sitting beside me at the coolest table, wearing one of my most perfect gowns of ever seen,” says Hahn, who marked her very first CFDAs this year. “Talk about magic!”
Hahn’s red carpet look was certainly magical. The Agatha All Along star wore Browne’s black sequin drop-waisted pleated dress, complete with black silk organza detailing and a crisp white collar and cuffs. “My look for the evening was the only one my stylist and I wanted,” says Hahn, who was styled by Jordan Johnson Chung for the night. “Sleek, demure with that little collar and glittery buttons, and alllll sequins that shimmered when I walked. I wanted to feel sexy, intelligent, myself—and I totally scored.”
Underneath the dress, Hahn sported platform brogue heels in a patent leather, which added mega height. “They made me feel like a giant,” says Hahn. But it was her pet for the night—or rather, pet purse, shaped after Hector, Browne’s beloved dachshund—that truly stole the show. Hahn only had one word to describe the statement accessory: “Iconic.”
The star's love affair with Browne’s creations started long before last night's CFDAs. “I have loved Thom’s clothes for forever,” says Hahn. “There is uniform quality to them; they make me nostalgic for the days of when my classmates and I would make our uniforms completely our own.” When asked when her love of fashion first ignited, Hahn recalls early memories of looking to Vogue for style inspiration. “Back in the day. I would buy Vogue and sit and smoke (not anymore!), and there was a future,” says Hahn. “For a girl from Ohio who wanted to be an actor, fashion was the promised land. Where I could be myself and feel more comfortable and confident and sure of myself.”
You could say that attendin the CFDAs, surrounded by the best of the best in fashion, was a dream come true for the actor. “Next to dear Thom and his partner Andrew, who are both so kind and hilarious, were Marc Jacob and his husband, Annie Leibovitz, Hamish Bowles, Sabastian Stan, and Addison Rae,” says Hahn.“I got big points from my daughter!” She also found it a special night to celebrate Browne, who is the chairman of the CFDA, and see his influence on the fashion community around him. “It was clear what a natural leader he is,” says Hahn. “I sense Thom to be a supportive lynchpin where he recognizes new talent and wants to help them realize the true power of who they, are and what they want to say.”
Currently, Hahn is relishing in all of the praise that she and the cast of Agatha All Along have been receiving for this season. “The reactions to Agatha have been beyond our wildest dreams,” she says. “I remember sitting with Jac and Mary (our genius writer and producer) and musing about this story and who could be in it. It was our own little coven. And to see it finally on the other side is so bittersweet and so exhilarating. I love being a witch!”
