Step away from the classic Sambas. At least if you’re in Paris, where all the girls are suddenly wearing yellow trainers, be they Puma, Adidas or Asics.

Yellow isn’t the easiest colour to wear, so what better entry point into the tricky shade than a shoe? As one fashion editor in the Vogue France office – frequently seen in Onitsuka Tiger’s Mexico 66 trainers – put it: “Yellow is an unflattering shade, which is why I like to wear it on my feet!”

Uma Thurman helped the retro Mexico 66 to attain cult status back in the early Noughties, when she starred as The Bride in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. Unlike Uma’s assassin, today’s fans (including models Kaia Gerber and Adwoa Aboah) wear their Tigers not with a matching yellow jump suit, but with midi-skirts, shorts or simply blue jeans.

Stylish Parisians are wearing other yellow trainers besides these. Also popular? The SL 72 RS by Adidas, and Puma’s Easy Rider. Take your cues from the French girls, and use yellow trainers to add a much-needed splash of vibrant colour to your winter looks.
