UMBC offers a range of financial aid and payment options so that all students may benefit from a UMBC education. Financial aid can come in the form of grants, work, student loans, parent loans, scholarships and other awards.
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships staff are available to assist you during all regular business hours — Monday through Friday between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM.

Fall Financial Aid
The first disbursement of fall financial aid will be applied to student billing accounts on Monday, August 19th, 2024. Disbursements of fall financial aid will continue occurring weekly on Tuesdays. Students will be notified via email once aid has been applied.
Financial aid is determined based on actual enrollment. Waitlisted, audited, and physical education courses do not count towards financial aid. Any adjustments to enrollment, housing, and meal plans may result in a change in financial aid. If you have questions about how adjustments to enrollment impact your account, please contact us.
Financial Aid Disbursement
For all disbursements, if your financial aid exceeds the balance due on your account, you may be expecting a refund. Refunds are processed by SBS typically within 1-2 days of disbursement. You can find more information regarding your refund method or the status of a refund with SBS.

If there are any adjustments to your financial aid award, you will receive a notification on myUMBC.

Profile Sharing
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects the privacy of student education records by limiting the disclosure of such records. Students may grant other individuals access to their account information via the Profile Sharing feature in myUMBC. It is a student’s responsibility to share their profile with anyone they would like to receive information about their financial aid and billing.

Financial Aid Processing:
All documents received are logged and linked to your financial aid record. myUMBC Alerts will disappear within two (2) business days of receipt. Processing of financial aid documents may take up to four (4) weeks. You should expect that processing times may approach this limit during high-volume periods, such as the start of each term, add/drop, and admissions deadlines. Please continue to monitor your myUMBC account for correspondence or requests from our office and staff.
