Our scholars conduct research studies and clinical trials in a vast range of disciplines, from MRIs to understand childhood brain development, to online surveys that help us understand how people interact on social media.

Depending on the type of study you participate in, you may be involved in a range of activities. In health research, participants may help researchers to understand the effects of new drugs or therapies. In other kinds of research, participation might involve completing questionnaires or interviews, behavioural tasks like physical exercises, or memory and cognitive tasks.

Participating in research at UCalgary is a great opportunity to learn about new technologies, therapies, and ideas. While many projects call for participants who meet certain criteria such as a health condition or lifestyle, many also need healthy or control participants in order to conduct a successful study or trial. Often, siblings or family members join as a control participant when a loved one is participating in a trial. Similarly, individuals who have been impacted by health or other challenges in their life may participate as a way to engage and contribute to research.

If you have questions about a specific study, please use the contact information provided on the individual study page. Note that some studies may only accept participants by physician referral; if this is the case, you may save or print the study information to discuss with your family doctor.

Health Research

Clinical Trials evaluate the effects of health-related interventions on health outcomes, and assess the effects of biomedical interventions such as drugs, devices, cognitive-behavioural therapy, diagnostic tests, and others.

Non-Health Research

Qualitative Studies aim to understand how people think about the world and how they behave in it. Data collection methods might include interviews, surveys, focus groups, and observations.

Community + Researchers
