Role Overview:

As our Media Reporter, you will be the go-to expert for covering the moves of the media industry and analyzing those moves through deeply reported pieces. Key Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

Weekend News Editor

Leading Hollywood industry news website TheWrap is seeking an experienced weekend news editor for its Los Angeles newsroom. The weekend news editor would join our edit desk and be expected to edit and assign copy as well as to write stories for the site, leaping on breaking stories in the media and entertainment news space. The weekend news editor will be responsible for running news coverage on Saturdays and Sundays working alongside a news writer. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, energetic and capable of multitasking in a high-pressure breaking news environment.

This is a full-time position, Thursday through Monday, that is currently in a hybrid work-from-home model requiring two days per week in TheWrap’s Los Angeles office. Working hours are 9-6 p.m. PT.

Wire service experience and a thorough knowledge in industry and consumer-facing entertainment are most welcome.

Required skills:

  • At least 3-5 years experience working in a fast-paced newsroom
  • Top-notch line-editing and copyediting skills
  • A player-coach who’s as comfortable assigning and editing as writing themselves

Audience Writer

TheWrap is seeking a highly qualified writer to join our Audience team, writing and reporting on entertainment news, ideating and executing short-term and evergreen SEO features tied to new releases and covering events like the Oscars, Grammys, Super Bowl and Emmys. The ideal candidate is a voracious consumer of film and television with both an appetite for being (or becoming) an expert on a specific show/movie/beat and a knowledge base of past Hollywood touchstones (if you haven’t seen anything made before 2010, this is not the fit for you).

Responsibilities include writing news pickups across the entertainment landscape and working with the audience team to ideate and execute feature ideas for new film and TV releases with an excellent SEO foundation.

Required skills:

  • At least 2 years experience writing about film, television and the entertainment landscape for professional outlets
  • Extremely high level of expertise in SEO, including adapting to evolving algorithms and finding new content strategies to drive traffic
  • Sharp, clean and engaging writing
  • Expansive knowledge of (and passion for) entertainment, film and television. Watching the majority of new release films and TV shows is a must.
  • Proficiency with a CMS such as WordPress

This is a Los Angeles-based position with required in-office days.

Typical salary range for this role is $55,000 – $65,000, but may vary depending on experience.

Senior Business Reporter

TheWrap is hiring a seasoned business reporter to join our team and help anchor our coverage of the entertainment business. The Senior Business Reporter will be tasked with ideating, writing and reporting on coverage of the business of entertainment, including film, television and media, with breaking news, deeply reported stories and earnings coverage and analysis. The ideal candidate is well-sourced within the industry and with analysts and can quickly turn around a sharp story on the biggest developments that are shaping entertainment today. Excellent journalism and reporting skills are a must.

Required skills:

  • 5-7 years of experience working in a digital newsroom or wire service
  • Sourcing within the entertainment industry

Film Editor

TheWrap is seeking a highly skilled film editor with significant industry experience, connections and knowhow. The film editor should be ready to direct and tackle film and film industry news and reporting with a passion for the film business.

The ideal candidate is well-sourced, experienced, innately curious about the business of Hollywood and capable of steering a team of skilled writers and reporters towards stories that need to be told. A love of movies is a must.

The film editor will manage TheWrap’s coverage of the film industry, including major moves at the studios, breaking industry news, festival coverage and film reviews. This is a player/coach role and the film editor is expected to report and write stories alongside film reporters.

Your copy should be clean, clever and conversational.

Knowledge of AP style and love of a good headline is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, energetic and capable of multitasking in a real-time news environment.

This is a full-time position that is currently in a hybrid work-from-home model requiring two days per week in TheWrap’s Los Angeles office.

  • At least 5 years experience editing and writing about film for professional outlets. Management experience strongly preferred

Politics Reporter

Leading Hollywood industry news organization TheWrap is seeking an experienced political news reporter for its Los Angeles newsroom. (Remote candidates out of New York City and Washington, D.C. will also be considered.)

The politics reporter will join our edit desk on a part-time basis and be expected to contribute breaking news reports as they relate to Capitol Hill’s cross section with Hollywood, as well as originally reported political and analysis features for our WrapPro subscription vertical. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and enthusiastic, well-sourced and capable of multitasking in a high-pressure breaking news workplace.

Associate Product Manager

We are seeking a dynamic Associate Product Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology and a strong understanding of product management principles. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative products in a fast-paced environment. As a Product Management Associate, you will collaborate closely with software developers, designers, and senior stakeholders to create and refine products that engage our audience and drive our business forward. Additionally, your knowledge of email marketing, subscription systems, and the news media landscape will help you shape and deliver effective digital products. You are motivated and eager to explore new frontiers of product development in news media, especially in data analytics and artificial intelligence. This is a remote position that must be able to work on Eastern Time (ET).

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with designers, senior stakeholders, and our technology partners to define product requirements, set priorities, and deliver high-quality digital products.
  • Stakeholder Management: Communicate product vision, progress, and results to senior stakeholders and incorporate their feedback into the product development process. Help maintain focus and continuity between implementation teams and leadership.
  • Acceptance Testing: Validate the work done by implementation teams to ensure that it meets business needs.
  • Product Development: Collaborate with digital leadership to manage the end-to-end product development lifecycle, including ideation, design, development, testing, and launch.
  • Audience Development: Leverage knowledge of email marketing and subscription systems to develop and optimize products that drive user engagement and revenue. Conduct market research and analyze industry trends to inform product strategy and ensure our offerings meet the needs of our audience.

Qualifications
This is a multi-faceted role on a dynamic team with opportunities to push your boundaries. We don’t expect you to be an expert in all of these disciplines. Most important is a proven track record of collaboration on a product team and a drive to learn and grow.

  • 1-2 years of experience on a digital product team, including routine engagement with software developers and business stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with modern productivity tools and the ability to rapidly pick up new ones. Some tools we use frequently are Slack, Jira, Figma, and Google Suite.
  • Analytical skills, including the ability to understand and discuss trends in website analytics using tools like GA4 and Chartbeat.
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to distill business requirements into technical specifications with the support of senior product leadership and our technology partners; ability to fluently discuss technology tradeoffs and limitations that arise in the product development lifecycle.
  • Understanding of Agile software development principles. Experience with Scrum is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with SaaS products and services
  • Ability to create and execute test cases
  • Proficient in project management software
  • Knowledge of Scrum methodology for agile development
  • Strong skills in requirements gathering and analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in journalism and digital media organizations.
  • Proficiency in analytics to drive product or audience decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices and their application in content creation.
  • Competence in using graphic design software like Figma, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator as a stakeholder.

This position may be done remotely. Salary range for this full-time position is $85,000 – $90,000 a year depending on experience level and includes benefits.
