Outer Banks is officially coming to an end, and Chase Stokes is getting emotional about it.
ICYMI: Ahead of the premiere of Outer Banks season 4 part 2 on November 7, 2024, Netflix announced the beloved show will be coming to an end with a now-confirmed season 5.
“In the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. That photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time,” showrunners Josh and Jonas Pate and Shannon Burke wrote in a statement announcing the fifth and final season. “From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship."
Chase Stokes reshared the note to his own Instagram account, adding a little note of his own as Outer Banks approaches its end. “My [heart's] heavy writing this one,” the actor began his caption. “One last ride. Thank you to everybody who has tuned in these past 5 years. You’ve given us more than we could ever give back to you. It’s always gonna be Pogues 4 Life.” Stokes signed off the post as “JBR,” in reference to his character's initials: John B. Routledge.
In a newly unveiled trailer for Outer Banks season 4 part 2, we got confirmation that the Pogues are off to Morocco for their next adventure with Drew Starkey's Rafe as their captain and enemy. Season 4 still has five episodes yet to hit Netflix at the time of writing, with the final 10th episode described as being feature-length and the show's "best, most powerful episode” yet by the showrunners.
In the letter confirming season 5, the showrunners said season 4 was the “longest and hardest — but most rewarding — to produce" and teased season 5 will be not only the “best” season yet but also a homecoming for the Pogues. "We hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago," they said.
