Rush-hour drivers are battling through standing water tonight as heavy rain drenches North Staffordshire. Knutton Lane, in Newcastle-under-Lyme, is one of the roads affected by the standing water tonight.
It comes as a flood alert has been declared for Stoke-on-Trent. It covers 'low-lying land and roads between Norton Green and Darlaston on the River Trent and on the Lyme Brook and Ford Green Brook'.
A Met Office yellow weather warning for rain remains in place until 9pm tonight.
It warns: "Spells of heavy rain may lead to some travel disruption and flooding in places. Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and road closures, there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings, and where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services. There is also a small chance that some communities will be temporarily cut off by flooded roads and a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses."
Queuing traffic is also being reported tonight on the A500 before the M6 roundabouts for junctions 15 and 16, on the A50 around Meir Tunnel, and around Smallthorne roundabouts.
