Our Environmental Sustainability Vision
UFlex aspires to achieve net-zero status by 2035, exemplifying its commitment to environmental responsibility since the
early 1990s. As an industry leader in building sustainable flexible packaging solutions, UFlex runs a global sustainability
initiative called ‘Project Plastic Fix’. UFlex aspires to achieve net-zero status by 2035, exemplifying its commitment to
environmental responsibility since the early 1990s. It is the ‘first company in the world to recycle mix plastic waste’ for
which it earned recognition at Davos Recycle Forum in 1995, way ahead of other companies from developed economies.
This initiative is aligned with the company’s sustainability approach of 4Rs to tackle the challenge of reducing stock and
flow of plastic waste in the environment. i.e. - Reduce plastic at source by manufacturing and using films made from PCR |
Recycle via upcycling and down cycling of MLP (Multi-Layer mixed Plastic) and PET containers, covers, other articles and
bottles | Reuse as source substitution via Pyrolysis | Return to the planet in the form of biomass, if the plastic waste
remains uncollected.
Source Segregation is the key of Plastic Waste Recycling
The key challenges in India concerning plastic waste management are littering, segregation at source and lack of
infrastructure for subsequent management. In India, with a vast geographic spread and large diversity in cultures,
traditions, and socio-economic factors, driving behavioral change is challenging. Particularly in the case of plastic waste,
it is tough to motivate changes in habits and inculcate all-important segregation at source. But the above also presents a
huge opportunity in terms of creating livelihood and the creation of a huge waste management sector.
Most of the plastic waste was recycled by the informal sector and sorting wastes by hand is the oldest and
simplest method of segregating plastic. In developing countries like India, it requires manual segregation for each type of
plastic before recycling takes place. Recycling has come up a long way in various countries. Still we are lag behind in
terms of technology. The lower sources of technology ultimately affect the level of the recycling process.

How Does a Reverse Vending Machine Work
Consumers insert used bottles/Cans into the designated slot upon approaching the machine.
The machine works using AI to identify and validate the material, ensuring it meets recycling criteria.
Once verified, materials are compressed for efficient storage and transportation to maximize efficiency and reduce
collection frequency.
Compacted materials are stored within the machine until it reaches full capacity or scheduled for collection.
Users receive an incentive as a reward through our app for their contribution to recycling efforts. This may be in the form
of monetary refunds, coupons, or tokens for redemption at participating stores.
Waste get transported to our recycling facility where it is cleaned and prepare for the further processing.
Reclaimed material get a new life in the form of clothing, consumer goods, packaging and much more.
