DISCUSS THE PRODUCTION PROCESS
OF A FILM ?

Television production, techniques used to create a television

program. The entice process of creating a program may involve
developing a script, creating a budget, hiring creative talent,
designing sets , etc.

The process of television production is divided

into 3 stages..

• PRE-PRODUCTION STAGE
• PRODUCTION STAGE
• POST-PRODUCTION STAGE
PRE-PRODUCTION STAGE
Pre production stage is the planning and preparation stage. It is the phase of
development and planning that is executed before the actual shooting phase
of the production.
There are few steps in it -
• Idea & Concept • Auditioning
• Treatment or Outline • Budgeting
• Script • Requisitioning facilities
• Screenplay • Procuring permits
• Short division • Shooting schedule
• Story boarding • Briefing the crew
• Location hunting
PRODUCTION STAGE
On the tree stages of film production, the production phase is where
everyone is involved together to get what they desired off.
Production is where the principle photography for the movie takes
place, when the scene is ready to be shot, actors are called to the sets,
the assistant directors and the directors instruct them where and
when to move in the scene.
Production involves :

• Managing video equipments

• Blocking, Rehearsing and Shooting
• Planning and executing shoots
• Handling the master shot
POST-PRODUCTION STAGE
An editorial team that includes a picture editor and several
assistants and apprentices usually works from the first day of shoot.
The Editor, with a non linear system, cuts the scene as they are
shot. The main aim or the job of the editor is to bring the film on
final cut by adding shots, background music, effects, etc to it.
Post production involves :

• Editing
• Dubbing
• Special effects
• Marketing & Advertisements
• Distribution
DISCUSS THE PRODUCTION PROCES
OF RADIO DRAMA ?

A radio drama is like any other play staged. The only difference is
that while a stage play has actors, stage, sets, a radio play has only
3 components . i.e human voice, music, and sound effects.
The 3 stages in radio drama –

PRE-PRODUCTION STAGE
• Firstly it is decided what type of play will be broadcasted and
then script is made.
• Then according to the character in story casting is done.
• Then rehearsals to the character is given.
• Then music according to the scene is been arranged.
• Then line-up is done .
PRODUCTION STAGE
According to the script, the characters speaks and all this is
recorded by the recordist.
We need proper studios, microphones etc to record the radio
drama.
POST-PRODUCTION STAGE
• What ever is recorded in the production stage is now edited.
• Special effects, background music is inserted into it.

DISCUSS THE ROLE OF REPORTER, SUB-
EDITOR AND EDITOR IN NEWSPAPER ?

Reporter
• A reporter is the gatherer of news, and as such performs an important function
in a newspaper establishment. As he has to gather news, he is required to be on
the move most of the time usually within the area allotted to him.

• He has to interview persons and attend public functions and meetings, press
conferences and law courts to investigate events of public interest, to collect
news and to ascertain news on contemporary events.

• The nature of the job being such, an ‘up-and -doing” type of person proves
successful in this line. Naturally, persons who prefer fixed working hours and
regular routine in daily life are unsuitable for this job.

• He must know general history, particularly the history of his area. Though he
can pick up these things as he goes along his duty, it is better for him to
Sub-Editor
• A Sub-Editor is a presenter of news and reports. He has a lawyer’s analytical
approach and quick-mindedness which enable him to understand a story
quickly and come to the core of the matter.

• He has to give suitable head-lines and where necessary, revise and condense
the material to suit the available space. This is rather a difficult task which
requires skill, flair for writing and mastery over the language. More often than
not, a sub-editor has to deal with the reports of different reporters.

• He has to glean important points from the mass of material sent by the news
reporters and condense them, giving a shape in a logical and interesting way.

• It is the task of the sub-editor to decide as to what is going in for tomorrow’s

newspaper and in what form. In fact, the sub-editor with a wide experience in
Editor
• An ideal news editor manages to get all the obvious stories into his paper with a
good proportion of them as exclusives. While the selection of obvious stories is
important, greater importance is attached to the original ones produced by his
team of correspondents.

• The news editor is called upon to use his discretion, discrimination and
imagination in reading the public mind and select the stories which have real
news value and can be called important by his readers-quite a large number to be
allotted a “splash” position on the main news pages according to the subject
matter 01 field of activity they are concerned with.

• An intelligent news editor has to make a judicious follow-up of a seemingly

promising paragraph or sometimes even make further enquiry before finalizing
the story and give it the perfect shape he wants.
DISCUSS THE ROLE OF DIRECTOR, CINEMATOGRAPHER,
SCRIPT WRITER AND CHOREOGRAPHER IN FILM ?

Director
• He is the captain of the ship.

• Even though they may not appear in front of the camera, the director is one of
the most important people on a film set. They’re the person who determines
the creative vision and makes all of the film’s biggest decisions.

• Directors also work with individuals in charge of lighting, scenery, writing,

and so forth, to make sure that all of the elements come together. The director
is in charge of the three main phases, which are pre-production, production
and post-production.

• Directors also help the actors to truly understand the characters. They might
explain the characters’ motivation for a particular action or their back-story.
One of the goals of a director is to push the actors to do their best work.
Cinematographer
• The main role of a Cinematographer is to communicate the script visually with
the audience in mind. It's visual storytelling at it's best. From an operational
side, the Cinematographer is the person who actually gets shoots the film, TV
series or commercial.

• Even as early as pre-production, cinematographers have to make important

decisions about the look and feel of a movie: is it going to be shot in digital or
film? is it going to be in color or black and white? will the colors be vivid or
faded and dull? is the camera going to be tied to a character? is the film going
to have a realistic tone, or a expressionistic one?

• A cinematographer's job is to express the story of the screenwriter and the

vision of the film director onto film. On larger films, the cinematographer is
strictly responsible for shot composition and planning, while the director of
Script-Writer
• Screenwriters develop scripts derived from their own ideas or other existing
ideas or work. When writing scripts, screenwriters are responsible for
describing the stories in detail, including physical environments and the moods
of the characters. Films and televisions shows require the use of these scripts.
Prior to production of a film or show, screenwriters might produce a synopsis
and several scenes of a story.

• A Screenwriter’s role in the overall Film-making process is absolutely vital.

Because it is in the screenplay that the Film is first born. And once the
screenplay is ready, it is the single most important document that forms the
basis on which everyone else (the Director, Actors etc.) builds the Film.

• In some cases, writers conceive original ideas, characters, dialogue and

settings and weave together a story form their own minds. At other times, they
CHOREOGRAPHER
• A choreographer is like the director and the screenwriter of a
film, all rolled in to one, but for dancers and dance routines
instead of actors on screen. They create and plan the routines
for performers to play out, usually to music or to evoke some
sort of idea in the heads of the audience.

• A large part of a choreographer’s job is to make sure that the

routine is pleasurable not only for the participants but for the
audience and possibly judges, too.
C horeographers teach more than just dance steps, they also help actors and singers
develop their characters, selecting rhythm and pacing to enhance their performances.
WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND
BY VOICE-OVER ?

The voice of an unseen narrator speaking (as in a motion picture

or television commercial) or a piece of narration in a film or
broadcast, not accompanied by an image of the speaker.
What is the purpose of voice over?

The inclusion of a voice over allows a filmmaker to efficiently

provide information to the audience in a way that is easy to
understand. Documentaries often use a voice over to provide the
viewer with relevant information through the film's soundtrack.
Is a voice over Diegetic?

Non-diegetic sound is sound whose origin is from outside the story

world. Voice-overs are typically non-diegetic, since
the narration does not appear in the film's story world. Usually,
