Abstract
• In this project, a combination of renewable and free energy sources is proposed and
studied to implement an efficient way to power generation. The energy harvesting
plays a vital role in supplying the energy to various applications compared to
conventional works.
• Footstep’s pressure and photovoltaic (PV) panel are the input sources for proposed
converter. This paper presents the simulation and prototype consideration and
reliability of a coupled of solar and piezo electricity generation for hybrid charging
system. This project also designs a Simulink model of Solar and Piezoelectric
Hybrid Charging System for simulation and data analysis.
• Due to their accessibility and inexpensive price, renewable resources such as solar
energy have seen a growth in demand in recent years. The goal of this project is to
find a method to overcome smartphone charging problem when people are
spending time outdoors or when they are on the go, with an economical approach.

Introduction
• It is quiet accepted that the earth’s fossil energy resources are limited , and
the cost of the global oil, coal and gas production continues to rise beyond
their peak.
• Fossil fuels belong to finite source and so will be completely exhausted
one day or the other. Most of the research now is about how to conserve
the energy and how to utilize the energy in a better way .
• Research has also been into the development of reliable and robust system
to harness energy from nonconventional energy resources. Among them ,
Wind and Solar power sources have experienced a remarkably rapid
growth in past 10 years.
• It is renewable, inexhaustible and environmental pollution free. Solar
charged battery system provide power supply for complete 24 hours a day
irrespective of bad weather. By adopting the appropriate technology for the
concerned geographical location, we can extract the large amount of power
from solar radiation.
• A coin acceptor plays a main role in this project.
• The coin acceptor controls the charging of the mobile phones.
• The coin acceptor accepts only 5 Rs coins and rejects the other coins.
• The Solar panel and Piezoelectric charges the battery, the battery
serves energy to the mobile phone.
• For 5Rs, duration of charging is maximum 15mins, the charging
duration depends on the cost.

Working
• The two solar panels of 7.2 volts are connected in series and generates 14.5volts
approximately by the sun rays.
• A solar charge controller is used to keep the battery from over charging and also it
regulates the voltage and current of the solar panel.
• The out put of the solar charge controller is given to the battery to get charged.
• A Piezoelectric crystals generates AC voltage by the external force. The output of
the Piezoelectric is depends on the external force.
• A bridge rectifier is used to convert the AC voltage of the Piezoelectric into DC
voltage.
• A 1000 micro Farad capacitor is connected with the bridge rectifier of
Piezoelectric to store and charge the battery.
• When the 5RS coin is accepted by the coin acceptor it sends 2pulses to the
ATMEGA328P microcontroller of Arduino.
• Arduino allows the energy from the battery to charger circuit through 12V relay.
• The charger circuit consists of USB port to connect the charging cable for mobile
phone.

• Now the mobile phone starts charging and also a weight scaling machine starts
working.
• The charging of phone and weight machine works for few mins(15mins).After that
the relay trips and both charging and weight machine is disconnected.
• The duration of 15mins of charging and weight scaling will be displayed by a LCD.

Hardware Description

1.The Arduino UNO: It is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328P

( 8bit,28 pins). It has 14 digital input/output pins. It supports both ADC and
DAC conversions. It operates at 5volts. The main purpose of Arduino is to
communicate with the electronic devices.
2.Solar panel: A two 7.2volts solar panels are connected in series to charge
the battery. It generates electricity by absorbing the sun’s rays (Photovoltaic
effect).
3.Charge controller: The charge controller is used to controller the generated
energy of the solar panel. It keeps the battery from overcharging and regulates
the output of the solar panel.
4.Piezoelectric: Piezoelectric crystals are the tiny thin quarts plates which
generates energy by external force. These crystals are connected in parallel
and its output depends on external force.

5. Battery: A 12volts,7.2Amps lead acid battery is used as the supply of this
project. The battery will get charged by solar panel and piezoelectric.

6. Weight scaling machine: It is the digital weight machine for body weight
only. It can sense the weight of 10 to 180kg.

7.Charger circuit: The charger circuit is a 3A fast charging circuit . It

consists of USB port to charge mobile phone through a USB charging cable.
8.LCD display: It is a 5volts, 16*2 line LCD display, which displays the
mobile phone charging and weight machine duration, it is also used to
display any instruction or information in digital display screen.

9.Relay channel: 12volts, 4 channel relay is used in this model. In this 2

channels are operating, one for phone charging and another for weight
scaling machine. The tripping of relay is controlled by the Arduino.
10.Coin acceptor: According to this project the coin acceptor accepts
only 5Rs coin. Based on the program the coin acceptor is working. This
controllers the entire model.

Applications and advantages:
 A hybrid power system has the ability to provide 24-hour grid quality electricity to
the load.
 Hybrid stand-alone solar- Piezoelectric power generation system that could be used
for various applications such as supplying power to rural areas.
 Bus stands, Bus stops, shopping centers and Public places.Renewable energy
technologies that operate on site can reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas
emissions while increasing energy independence for the site operator.
 By using renewable technology savings can be made on conventional energy
requirements, carbon emissions can be cut and site operating costs can be reduced.
 It offers better performance, flexibility of planning and environmental benefits
compared to the diesel generator based stand-alone system.
 Can be used to charge mobiles in rural areas or remote areas.

Disadvantage:
• The main disadvantage of a on step power system using renewable energy is that
the availability of renewable energy has daily and seasonal fluctuations which
results in difficulties in regulating the output power to cope with the varying the
load demand.

Conclusion
In this paper, the feasibility of applying a coupled solar energy and piezoelectric sensor
has been studied as the electricity generation towards hybrid charging system. Besides,
this project focused on the renewable and affordable energy. The simulation part was
simulated by using C Program. Afterwards, Solar-Piezo pertaining to be a device that
help to reduce the electrical consumption by using renewable and free energy
resources. After simulation, Solar Piezo Hybrid Charging System moved to the
prototype by using C language in Arduino . Therefore, this paper has designed an
energy harvesting system from a coupled Solar Piezoelectric approach. Other than that,
this project has developed an integrated prototype of an automatic transfer switching
system for energy storage. The impact of this project is it can be utilized for
commercialization.
