Digital security and cyber security are related but distinct terms. Digital security refers broadly to protecting online identity, data, and assets, while cyber security specifically deals with safeguarding digital systems and networks from cyber threats like hacking and malware. Common cybersecurity risks include malware, password theft, and ransomware. To stay cyber safe, it is important to keep software updated, use antivirus protection and firewalls, and employ strong unique passwords. While cybersecurity provides benefits like data protection and compliance, it also has disadvantages such as high costs and potential inconvenience to users.

Digital Security is the collective term
that describes the resources employed to protect your online identity, data, and other assets. In other words, digital security is the process used to protect your online identity. What is digital security? 44
A digital security risk is an
action or event that could result in loss or damage to computer software, hardware, data or information. What are digital security risks? Common Types of Digital Security Risks 1. Malware - Is when an unwanted piece of programming or software installs itself on a target system, causing unusual behavior. This ranges from denying access to programs, deleting files, stealing information, and spreading itself to other systems. 2. Password Theft – A common conclusion when you log in to an account, only to find your password changed and details lost. The reality is an unwanted third party managed to steal or guess your password and has since run amok with the information. It’s far worse for an enterprise, which may lose sensitive data. 3. Ransomware – A nasty variant of malware, ransomware installs itself on a user system or network. Once installed, it prevents access to functionalities (in part or whole) until a “ransom” is paid to third parties. Things You Can Do To Keep Yourself Cyber Safe 1. Keep Your Software Up to Date Turn on automatic system updates for your device Make sure your desktop web browser uses automatic security updates • Keep your web browser plugins like Flash, Java, etc. updated 2. Use Anti-Virus Protection & Firewall • A firewall protects data from malicious attacks, allowing traffic to enter devices. Windows and Mac OS X have built-in firewalls, while routers should also have firewalls. 3. Use Strong Passwords • Make a complex mixture of uppercase letters, symbols, and numbers. • Don’t use the same password twice. Cyber security Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting digital systems, networks, and data from cyber threats and attacks. It encompasses a wide range of measures, tools, and practices aimed at ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of digital assets. Cybersecurity involves safeguarding against various threats, including hacking, malware, phishing, data breaches, and other cyberattacks that can compromise the security of information technology systems and networks. 8 Why is cyber security important? Cybersecurity is essential for protecting our digital assets, including sensitive personal and financial information, intellectual property, and critical infrastructure. Cyberattacks can have serious consequences, including financial loss, reputational damage, and even physical harm. But what’s the difference between digital security and cyber security? Or is there any difference between the two? Digital security focuses on protecting all types of digital data, including personal information, files, and communications from unauthorized access or damage. Cyber security, on the other hand, specifically deals with safeguarding digital systems, networks, and devices from cyber threats, such as hacking, malware, and data breaches. In essence, digital security is a broader and includes aspects beyond just cyber threats. 11 Security Tool PKI Services (Public key infrastructure) PKI is a software that securely transmits and identifies public encryption keys, ensuring the identity of individuals and computers when exchanging sensitive data over the internet. NetSpark NetSparker is a web security platform that integrates easily into test and development environments, offering patented Proof-Based-Scanning technology to detect vulnerabilities and validate false positives. Managed Detection and Response Service (MDR) Cybercriminals use advanced strategies to breach organizations’ security, necessitating complex cybersecurity defenses. MDR offers advanced security solutions including threat hunting, intelligence, monitoring, incident analysis, and management, utilizing AI and machine learning for faster outcomes. Advantages of Cyber Security • Protection of Sensitive Data • Intellectual Property Protection • Business Continuity • Compliance with Regulations • Reputation Protection • Enhanced Customer Trust • Enhanced Collaboration • Competitive Benefit • Remote Work Security • Early Detection and Response Disadvantages of Cyber Security • Inconvenience to users • Evolving threat landscape • Compatibility issues • Human error • Potential false sense of • Limited effectiveness security against Insider Threats • Complex management • Difficulties measuring ROI • High cost of • Balancing security and implementation usability QUIZ Instruction :
