Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana

 Major objectives of PMKSY

• To achieve end to end water use system and convergence of investments in

irrigation at field level,
• Expand cultivable area under assured irrigation,
• Improve on-farm water use efficiency to reduce wastage of water
• Enhance the adoption of precision-irrigation and other water saving
technologies.
 Major Components of PMKSY
AIBP • To focus on faster completion of ongoing Major and Medium Irrigation including National
by MoWR Projects.

• Creation of new water sources through Minor Irrigation (both surface and ground
Har Khet ko Pani water)
by MoWR • Repair, restoration and renovation of water bodies; strengthening carrying capacity of
traditional water sources, construction rain water harvesting structures

Per drop more crop • Promoting efficient water conveyance and precision water application devices like
DAC&FW, MoA drips, sprinklers, pivots, rain-guns in the farm (Jal Sinchan);

Watershed Management • Water harvesting structures such as check dams, nala bund, farm ponds, tanks etc.

1. District Irrigation Plans (DIP) have been prepared

for all districts.
2. State Irrigation Plan (SIP) formulated for Rs 17,700
Crore with an average annual projection of about
Rs 3500 Crore for 5 years w.e.f. 2016 to 2021.
3. Annual Action Plans of about 30% of SIP’s annual
projected amount are regularly submitted to GoI
with the approval of the SLSC.

ISSUES

1)The process of release of Central Grants to the implementing

agencies need to be expedited within 15 days as prescribed in
the release orders of GoI. This would facilitate accrual of more
Central Grants as subsequent installment in the same financial
year.

2) The unspent Central Grant of Rs 8024.37 Lakh lying in the

State exchequer is to be released to the implementing
agencies at the earliest.
