Easter Season
The Easter season is the second-
longest liturgical season. Only
ordinary time is longer. The
Church celebrates the Easter
season (also known as
“Eastertide”) for 50 days,
culminating with the feast of
Pentecost, where Scripture (Acts
2:1–31) tells us that the Holy Spirit

three days after his death by
crucifixion. For many Christian
churches, Easter is the joyful end to
the Lenten season of fasting and
penitence.
RESURECTION
 the act of rising from the dead.
 (initial
capital letter) the rising of Christ after His
death and burial.
 (initial
capital letter) the rising of the dead on
Judgment Day.
 the state of those risen from the dead.
a rising again, as from decay, disuse, etc.; revival.
 ChristianScience. a rising above mortality through the
understanding of spiritual life as demonstrated by
Jesus Christ.
Easter Season
 The Sprinkling Rite is another change. The
presider sprinkles holy water throughout the
congregation, often using a small stick-like item
known as an aspergillum. This replaces the Act of
Penitence during the Mass and reminds us of our
baptismal vows.

 Finally, worshippers may notice a small change in

the language used during the prayers of the
faithful. Sometimes, prayers will use “We pray to
the risen Lord” as a nod to the Easter season.
Easter Season
 Inaddition to bright colors among the
congregation, Easter liturgies feature some
noticeable changes from those that take place
during ordinary time. The color of the priest’s
vestments is white (or gold), a break from the
purple worn during Lent.

 The most noticeable changes include the

return of singing both the Gloria and Alleluia
(before the Gospel), both of which are not
part of Lenten liturgies.
Easter season events
Holy Saturday: commemorates the time when
Jesus was in the tomb; no liturgical rites should be
celebrated on this day (not before sundown).

Easter Vigil: begins the liturgical celebration of

the Resurrection of Jesus; a special liturgy
(celebrated Saturday after sunset, during the
night, or Sunday before dawn) includes lighting of
the Easter Fire and Easter Candle, proclamation of
the Easter Exsultet, extensive readings from the
Old Testament, and the Baptism of many new
Christians.
Easter season events
Easter Sunday: the day of Jesus’
Resurrection; the liturgy includes the
renewal of Baptismal Promises for all the
faithful.
The main Easter day tradition is Salubong or
"welcoming." It consists of two processions—
men accompany the statue of the Risen Jesus, and
still-sorrowful women follow the statue of the
Virgin Mary until the mother and the son meet—
this marks the start of the joyful celebration
SALUBONG - A FILIPINO EASTER
TRADITION

These two images will meet at a certain point,

usually in the church grounds where a shower
of petals will come down after Mother Mary's
veil is lifted. A small girl dressed as an angel
traditionally lifts the veil from above. The
rest of the angels will shower the two images
with flowers amidst the exultation of the
faithful.
A colorful, giant paper banana blossom
hangs above the stage just above where
Mary's statue is placed. Eventually a
mechanism opens the banana blossom to
reveal a young girl dressed as an angel in
white. She sings Regina Coeli as she is
lowered to Mary's statue. As confetti drops
around her, she removes Mary's black veil
of sorrow. Participants join in the
celebration of the Resurrection and the end
of Mary's sorrow.
Regina Caeli: English and Latin
This is one of four Marian antiphons, with following versicles and prayers, traditionally said or sung after
night prayer, immediately before going to sleep. It is said throughout Eastertide. (That is, from Easter Day
through Pentecost, the seventh Sunday after Easter. The Regina caeli is also said in place of the Angelus
during Eastertide.
Queen of Heaven
V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
R. For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia.
V. Has risen, as he said, alleluia.
R. Pray for us to God, alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
R. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.
Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the
resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we
beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin
Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life.
Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Regina caeli
V. Regina caeli, laetare, alleluia.
R. Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia.
V. Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia.
R. Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.
V. Gaude et laetare, Virgo Maria, alleluia.
R. Quia surrexit Dominus vere, alleluia.
Oremus. Deus, qui per resurrectionem Filii tui, Domini
nostri Iesu Christi, mundum laetificare dignatus es:
praesta, quaesumus; ut per eius Genetricem Virginem
Mariam, perpetuae capiamus gaudia vitae. Per eundem
Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.

celebration, from Easter Sunday to the 2nd
Sunday of Easter (now also known as “Divine
Mercy Sunday” by Roman Catholics).

Feast of the Most Holy Trinity

On the first Sunday after Pentecost, the Church

celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.
Some resources for growing in devotion to the Trinity.
The whole of the Church’s life flows from the central
belief that the one true God exists as three divine
Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Since the very
beginning of time, God has gradually revealed and
communicated the truth of who he is as Trinitarian
through what he has done in salvation history (see
CCC 53-67)
Pentecost Sunday
 Itcommemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit
on the Apostles and other followers of Jesus
Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating
the Feast of Weeks. This important event in the
Christian faith is described in the Acts of the
Apostles
 Did you know that the feast of Pentecost is often
referred to as the birthday of the Church? It is
called that because Pentecost is when the
apostles went out among the people and began
spreading Jesus' message, thus establishing the
beginning of the Church.
Corpus Christi
The Feast of Corpus Christi, which is Latin for “Body
of Christ”, is a Latin Rite Liturgical Solemnity,
celebrating the tradition and belief in the Body and
Blood of Jesus Christ, and his “Real Presence” in the
Eucharist. It emphasizes the joy of the institution of
the Eucharist, which was observed on Holy Thursday.
In the Roman Missal, the feast is designated as the
“Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of
Christ”. The feast day is Liturgically celebrated on
the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, and is generally
assigned to the Sunday after the Most Holy Trinity.
THE RESURRECTION - A WORK OF THE
HOLY TRINITY
Christ's Resurrection is an object
of faith in that it is a transcendent
intervention of God himself in
creation and history. In it the
three divine persons act together
as one, and manifest their own
proper characteristics.
THE RESURRECTION - A WORK OF THE
HOLY TRINITY
 The Father's power "raised up" Christ
his Son and by doing so perfectly
introduced his Son's humanity,
including his body, into the Trinity.
Jesus is conclusively revealed as "Son
of God in power according to the Spirit
of holiness by his Resurrection from
the dead".CCC 555
