PROJECT NAME :- OCEAN ENERGY .

OCEAN ENERGY
• Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is a process which utilizes the heat
energy stored in the tropical ocean.

• OTEC utilizes the difference in temperature betweenwarm surface seawater and

cold deep seawater toproduce electricity.

• Because the oceans are concnually heated by the sun and cover nearly 70% of
the Earth's surface, this temperature difference contains a vast amount of solar
energy which could potentially be tapped for human use.
WHAT IS OCEAN ENERGY

• Ocean energy refers to all forms of renewable

energy derived from the sea. There are three
main types of ocean technology: wave, tidal and
ocean thermal . All forms of energy from the
ocean are still at an early stage of
commercialization . Wave energy remains more
costly than the other ocean technologies. Tidal
range (see explanation below) has been
deployed in locations globally where there is a
strong tidal resource (for example La Rance in
France, Sihwa in South Korea), while tidal
stream (see below) has been demonstrated at
pilot scale.
TYPES OF OCEAN ENERGY

• WAVE ENERGY
• TIDAL ENERGY
• OCEAN CURRENT ENERGY
• OCEAN THERMAL ENERGY
CONVERSION
WAVE ENERGY

Wave energy is a renewable form of

energy harnessed from the power of
ocean waves. It involves capturing the
motion of waves and converting it into
electricity. Devices such as buoys or
submerged turbines are used to capture
the energy generated by the up-and-
down motion of waves. This clean and
sustainable energy source has the
potential to contribute to the global
energy mix and reduce dependence on
fossil fuels.
TIDAL ENERGY

Tidal energy is a form of renewable energy

that harnesses the power of ocean tides to
generate electricity. It involves capturing
the kinetic energy of moving water caused
by the gravitational pull of the moon and
the sun. Tidal energy has the potential to
provide a consistent and clean source of
power.
ADVANTAGE OF OCEAN ENERGY
1. Abundant and renewable source of energy.
2. Renewable and sustainable energy source.
3. High energy density and Low operating costs.
4. Minimal greenhouse gas emissions.
5. Diverse technologies (wave, tidal, ocean thermal) for different locations.
6. Long-term energy independence.
7. Minimal visual impact compared to other renewable sources.
8. Can be integrated with other marine activities (e.g., aquaculture).
9. Can be integrated with other marine activities (e.g., aquaculture).
10. provide power to remote, coastal, and island communities .
