Bro. Ivan Angelo A. Dela Peña
REASON FOR BEING AN ALTAR SERVER

INFATUATED LOVE CLOUT

COMMON REASON FOR BEING AN ALTAR SERVER
BAKIT KA SUMAKRISTAN?
Para paglingkuran ang Diyos at ang
kanyang bayan; At para lumago sa
kabanalan.
SPECIFIC REASON FOR BEING AN ALTAR SERVER
BAKIT KA SUMAKRISTAN?
Pagnilayan mo kung bakit ka nga ba
sumakristan. Ito ang sarili mong dahilan.
Sino ang isang Altar Server?
Ang Altar Server ay isang lalaking
sinanay na tumulong sa Misa upang ito
ay maipagdiwang nang may biyaya at
pagpipitagan. Ang Altar Server ay isang
miyembro ng Simbahan na nakikilahok
sa pagdiriwang na may pagkaunawa na
sila ang mga sinusundan ng
kapulungan.

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

Ano ang ginagawa ng Altar Server?
Ang Altar Server ay tumutulong sa
pari at diakono sa panahon ng Misa
at iba pang mga relihiyosong
seremonya. May mga espesyal na
responsibilidad sa paglilingkod. Ang
Server ay isa ring halimbawa sa
kapulungan sa pamamagitan ng
pakikiisa sa pag-awit, pagdarasal at
pananatiling katahimikan sa panahon
ng Misa.

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

Bakit pinili mo ang pagiging Altar
Server na tumutulong sa Misa?
Mas pinipili ng isang tao o kabataan
na maglingkod sa Misa dahil
ginagalaw ng Diyos ang kanyang
puso, nagbibigay inspirasyon sa isip
at tinatawag ang tao sa ministeryong
ito. Inaanyayahan ng Diyos ang mga
mapagbigay at matulungin na tao na
maglingkod sa Misa.

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

“Your commitment to the altar is not only a duty but a
great honor, a true holy service, an authentic liturgical
service which puts you beside your priests.”

“You are servants of Jesus Christ, the eternal High

Priest. Thus you altar servers especially are called to
be young friends of Jesus.”

-Saint Pope John Paul

II

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

• PRMOTION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS
“Your attitude during the celebrations is in itself an
apostolate for those who see you. If you carry out
your service at the altar with joy, dignity, and with an
attitude of prayer, you will certainly inspire in other
young people the desire to commit thems“
“You have to discover who you are and develop
your own way of being holy, whatever others may
say or think. Becoming a saint means becoming
more fully yourself, becoming what the Lord wished
to dream and create, and not a photocopy.” -Pope Francis

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

You are the servant of God you are appear in public, but you are
never a performer, by your faithful duty, you remain always a
servant of God in your communities and parishes.
At the altar, your service is directed FIRSLY TO GOD, SECONDLY
TO HELP THE GLEARGY, and THIRDLY AS ASSISTANCE TO
THE PEOPLE.
What a great privilege to be part of this Ministry to serve God in His
people! What a wonderful gift to be His friends. Jesus has done so
much for us. We show our gratitude by our faithful service to Him.

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

THE IDEAL we all have ideals. One of the simplist ideals would be to
be as helpful as to the cleargy as possible.

REVERENCE for God and for sacred

objects is most important when you serve.
Reverent actions, peaceful and dignified
behavior, should be seen by the people
when you stand at the altar.

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

DISCIPLINE training involves
discipline. Part of the discipline of
serving is team-work. It helps to
make a great act of workship more
beautiful, peaceful and prayerful
work.

Discipline involves obedience and their have two kinds of obedience.

First is toward the cleargy, head server, team leader, obedience to
people. Secondly towards the liturgical law of the church,
obedience to correct procedure. A strong life of faith always self-
discipline.

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS
DECORUM requires a sense of dignity.
“What is proper.” Behaving with a quiet
reverence, not pushing yourself forward
but moving around confidently and
carrying out each action without fuss or
geat speed. It also includes having the
sense to cover up any small mistake.
PIETY it is an attidude. “I’m doing all this
for you, my God”. Piety is not some kind
of force we turn on and turn off, just to
cover the time spent in the sanctuary.

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

BROTHERS AT THE ALTAR as you serve with various priests, you come to know them as
men of God and also a friends and that they greatful to your work. Always treat your priests
with respect and cheerful co-operation.
As you serve, you make many friends among others called to this ministry. It is most
important that servers help one onother, that they are friendly and kind to one another, that
there is never a spirit of competition or pride.

be afraid to smile as you serve Mass. Be relaxed and comfortable. Be yourself. Remember to listen, sing, and
pray with the other people who have gathered to worship God. Remember what an important service you are
giving to God and God’s people, and do your best.

STRIKING THE CHEST this gesture is done as a symbol of recognition that we are sinners, and is done
during the Confiteor (after the words “I have sinned through my own fault).

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

LITURGICAL SETTING

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

THE ALTAR as a server, it is your privilege to be in the holy place, the sanctuary. You serve at the most important point of
the church building, the altar. This place of sacrifice which is what altar means, is also the Table of the Lord where He feeds
us with His Body and Blood.
THE LECTERN (AMBO) it is place reserved for the readings of the Word of God and usually for the homily. It is also
called the Table of the Word.
THE CHAIR the chair is a sign of the priest’s role of presiding over the assembly during the liturgy of the Word and in the
concluding rite of the Mass.
THE TABERNACLE during their travels in the wilderness, the people of Israel were commanded to build a tabernacle so
that God could “dwell among them” (Exodus 29:46). “Tabernacle literally means 'place of dwelling' and was so called in the
belief that God literally lived within its sacred confines. Servers should be aware of the place of reservation in your own
chruch,.
THE CREDENCE TABLE a small table of wood, marble, or other suitable material placed within the sanctuary of a
church and near the wall at the Epistle side, for the purpose of holding the cruets, acolytes' candles, and other utensils
required for the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice
THE SACRARIUM a basin or sink, with a separate drainpipe directly to the earth for the disposal of water used for sacred
purpose.

FORMATION OF THE ALTAR SERVERS

PLACE OF THE SERVERS servers sit in some convenient place on the sanctuary. But it is not correct for them to sit
facing the people or beside the priest.
THE HOUSE OF GOD the server treats the chruch building with utmost respect. The chruch is the house of God, the house
of God’s people, the center for prayer and workship. The server should be careful not to get casual about his behavior in
chruch. There is also a danger that we imagine that we only need to come to the chruch when our serving duties require our
presence. The good server always visits his chruch for a quiet prayer when he happens to be passing by or being signed by
the signed of the cross.

LEADERSHIP FOR
THE ALTAR SERVERS

Presented by:
Bro. Mark Jayson Lagan
How does Pope Francis show leadership?
By modeling his vision, he not only inspires followers but
also shows them how they might embody these same
values themselves.
What made Pope Francis a good leader?
The fact that he backs up his words with actions, has his
feet on the ground and has a long-term vision, mark Pope
Francis out as a great leader.
“A leader is a good leader if he or she is able to generate
other leaders among the young. If he only wants to be the
sole leader, he is a tyrant… If they do not sow leadership
in others, they are of no use, they are dictators.”

LEADERSHIP
LEADERSHIP
Ministry leadership supports youth in “developing the ability to analyze their own
strengths and weaknesses, set personal and professional goals, and have the self-
esteem, confidence, motivation, and abilities to carry them out.
Jesus said in Matthew 20:26, 28  “Anyone wanting to be a leader among you
must be your servant. And if you want to be right at the top, you must serve like a
slave. Your attitude must be like My own. For I did not come to be served, but to
serve.” Then Luke 22:26, “But among you the one who serves best will be your
leader.”

LEADERSHIP
MINISTRY LEADERSHIP

1. We were created to serve others.

God planned a life of service for you. One reason why so many people are miserable
today is because they’ve missed the point of life. As I serve others, my own needs are
met and as I give my life away, I find it. You were created for service.

2. It proves that we belong to Christ.

God says that the way you know you’re a part of the body of Christ is that you
serve others. Serving is the proof of our identity as members of His family.

LEADERSHIP
MINISTRY LEADERSHIP

3. It’s the best use of our lives.

It is the best use of my life to serve other people, being in the ministry it gives us more
valuable to others.

4. It makes life meaningful.

We don’t pity people who are up to their neck in service. I happen to know that those are the
people who are most alive. If you’re not serving, you’re not living; you’re just existing. That’s
why we want to move people into the core of a purpose-driven church because Jesus says,
“Only those people who are throwing their lives away for My sake and the sake of the Good
News will ever know what it means to really live.” It makes life meaningful.

LEADERSHIP
MINISTRY LEADERSHIP
5. Serving will be rewarded for eternity.
This life is a test. You’re being tested, and God is seeing what kind of faithfulness you have.
You’re going to spend far more time on that side of eternity than you do in the years you’re
here. How you spend your time here is going to determine what’s going to be done with you in
the next life for eternity. Someday I want to stand before Jesus Christ, and I want to hear Him
say, “Well done thou good and faithful servant. You were not perfect, but you did your best.
You gave it your best shot

LEADERSHIP
MINISTRY LEADERSHIP
3 weapons to battle leadership loneliness
1. Develop an inner circle of staff.
When you impart wisdom, training and love to a few people, they usually return loyalty,
productivity and love in plenty. But the returns don’t stop with you—the benefits multiply
to those your inner circle lead and work with.

Your effectiveness broadens and deepens when you invest yourself in a handful of gifted
people. As they do their job with excellence, you’ll feel a weight lifted off your shoulders.

LEADERSHIP
MINISTRY LEADERSHIP

2. Keep your work in perspective.

Ask the limitless Lord to find time for every commitment in your finite schedule. He will
surprise you with efficiency, effectiveness and progress. He will guide your steps if you
give Him control of your daily walk. When I cry out to Him in the midst of a crushing
workload or stifling stress, He gives me respite.

Pray for perspective on your work. View your career from eternity and in the light of
scripture. Ask the Lord to show you the most important tasks and conversations He wants
you to focus on today, and to encourage you with long-term vision.

LEADERSHIP
MINISTRY LEADERSHIP

3.  Latch on to a few friends.

Friends are important weapons against loneliness
One more weapon

Most of us feel alone or down at various times, for various reasons. My bonus weapon for
you is simply to believe there is a time when you’ll be up again and to have patience with
yourself on the way there.
